The original maps that were released by Sprint, were the proposed Future EVDO coverage areas, NOT actual coverage. Some, not available until Q1 2006. Sprint, has released a new web page that allows you to type in your zip code and SEE what the coverage is currently like. Since, they are rapidly deploying EVDO, we are not sure how current these maps are. I would bet, that they are current:

I posted this earlier. It's hard to say what is official or not. It only shows a few parts of KC, STL and Minneapolis but EVDO is available in nearly the entire metro. Minneapolis is 'officially' out this month, and does work metrowide, but the map only shows a portion of the metro.

Apparently not real-time info.

The one for AZ isn't current... still shows only a small spot near downtown Phoenix. I don't know if the whole light yellow "future coverage" area is EV-DO yet, but I do know alot more than the tiny downtown spot has EV-DO.

These maps are way outdated. Case in point: most of LA and Orange counties have EVDO while the maps show only the airports have it.

I have confirmed that Verizon updates the maps every 3 months.

It would really be to Sprint's advantage (since they are currently behind Verizon in coverage), to QUICKLY release updated maps. It would really benefit everyone.

While I completely agree with you, I don't see it happening. Sprint's maps have ALWAYS been woefully out of date for some reason. It's really frustrating, to say the least. There is some coverage in my area (East TN) that has been available for 2+ yrs and just showed up on the maps after the merger completed. How pathetic is that?

It seems that both Sprint and Verizon have the same issues, see this topic:

http://www.evdoinfo.com/Tips/PC_5220/Verizon_BroadbandAccess_Coverage_Maps_-_Not_Always_Up_To_Date_20050825533/

I found out a few days ago, that the coverage maps at Verizon are updated every 3 months.

Since Sprint is trailing Verizon from a coverage point of view, I would think, they would try harder to keep the maps updated and let people know. Seems like this has been a problem for all carriers for sometime.

Ocotber 14, 2005: Bandwidthplace 1X-EV test: 2.4 MBS with Merlin card and Sprint EVDO on Old Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh. I understand from Sprint store that coverage is due to be turned on by October 17.

What if anything is Sprint offering in EVDO trials? I know they claim coverage in zip 20616, but so does Verizontal.....and Mr. Dweeb is nowhere to be found in the area..

Please note that Sprint apparently has two databases of maps. If you access through EVDO and even through Sprint regular coverage links, it does not recognize zipcodes for some areas it actually serves. For example there is supposedly no service in Vermont (test zip 05454).

However if you go through Sprint's wireless offerings it will show service in Vermont and will accept a zipcode.

I would suggest that EVDO make its link to coverage maps through this other portal

I'm a field tech with you know who. The info I can provide can help you make an informative decision in regards to EV-DO coverage, to include EV-DO enabled tower location and average 60 minute bandwidth throughput. As a consumer, I would love to have this info before dropping a dime on the contract and hardware purchase and to find out you have no coverage.

PM me with you location and or post up your zip code and I will let you know the address of the tower.

I have also noticed that. Speed is faster than I expected.

I live in RTP near the end of the 147. I just bought an a940 and so far am not seeing ev-do here. I am maxing out at like 140kb/s. the icon on my phone should be different when connected to ev-do and it is not. I have not had a chance to test it anywhere else though.
