Not sure where your at but my speeds have been great using the u720 with VZaccess Manager 3.1.0
This is from my MacBook Pro
I did notice that on the Powerbook G4 the speeds were a bit slower but it is probably higher latency in the usb bus on those systems. |

It must not be extremely difficult to write usb drivers since I paid $25 or so for some that make my Treo 700p work with my Intel Mac and they also work with windows, etc.
You can read my post here and even download those drivers to see if they work.
Support for Treo 600, Treo 650 and Treo 700p smartphones
Support for Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems
Support for USB and Bluetooth connectivity
Support for background mode so it is possible to make outgoing voice calls or perform other activity on the Treo without disabling the modem mode
Support for Fax modem operation
Small memory footprint (30 KB)
Perhaps that USB connectivity might work with the U720 or someone can pressurize them into writing something that will work with the Mac... |

We may have figured out a way to get the U720 working until Apple releases the 720 drivers. We are doing more testing, it does require that you install VZAccess 3.1.0, so this will only work for customers that have both Verizon and Sprint.
We will need Monday to do more testing, instead of posting the step by step here (not very complicated), we will send out an email to those that purchased a U720 from us. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I've been a "lurker" on this for quite a while, did have some success with VZAccess on my PB G4 but the U720 is working fine at home with the PC but the PB won't recognize it any longer, will do some more testing on my own, perhaps the VZAccess allows the device to roam on Verizon only. I do suspect that it won't be long before those behind the scenes at Sprint will get a driver, but have only heard rumors out of tech support and nothing to substantiate it. |

VZaccess doesn't control where the modem roams on the mac. All it does it provides the driver so that device is presented to the OS. Once the card is provisioned on a PC you should be able to add the vzaccess version 3.1.0 or higher to the mac and the card will show up when you go to the network control panel. Select the sprint modem script, use #777 for the phone number and put something in for the username and password and it should just work. You may have to uncheck the box in the modem tab that tells it to wait for a dial tone. It wasn't necessary on one of my machines but was on the other (ppc vs intel). |

After you install the drivers and reboot open a terminal window and type "tail -f /var/log/system.log" without quotes then insert the card. It should spit out log messages that look something like this.

Does yours get this far?
After that go to the network control panel and it should say that it found a new port and you should configure it like a mentioned in my previous post. |

Hi, I'm a Mac.
And I LOVE my new Novatel Ovation U720 EVDO Connection!
You should love YOURS too.
You DO need to activate/update your Merlin 720 PC Card or Ovation 720 USB modem in a PC first. Yep... EITHER will work on your old or new Mac.
I'm a HAPPY MAC now.
ENJOY!

| I have a MacBook and it recognized the USB modem, I configured everything accordingly and still nothing. I get attempting to connect for 20 seconds, then disconnect and and it says there is a problem. |

| even if the files from Mac.Intosh work, the u720 has to be activated and unlocked on a windows pc or bootcamp. |
