Oh, OK. The video channels work on any video phone. They started back in 2004 as a $10 option to PCS Vision by MobiTV. That gave you real stations like C-Span1&2, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, Discovery, National Geographic, USA, Bravo and Oxygen. At the time it seemed pretty nifty on my Sanyo 4500. Now the Data Packs consist mostly of stations that advertise stuff for the movie production houses and TV networks - and they have added additional advertising you have to watch in order to watch them advertise their new movies and TV features. The cellphone video has always been spottier than data card connections though. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

My bill came yesterday and it shows Unlimited. Sprint's web site shows Unlimited. So I called and asked about those of us that were customers prior to the implementation of the 5gb limit. I was told that old customers still have Unlimited service and we won't be forced into the new plan now or at our contract expiration unless we choose to change our plan. We shall see if this is correct. Ed _________________ EdAtlanta |

OK. It's a nice Friday before a holiday... so I have a few minutes to sit on hold with Sprint.
First, I was told by the CSR (who put me on hold to do her homework on this) that there is now a 5 gig cap on all devices - phones included. (althought the Sprint site still shows the SE plan as unlimited).
She made a big point out of telling me that the individual companies were taking it in the shorts for when some "computer savvy" (that's what she said!) people were figuring out that they could roam with their cards and use an unlimited amount of data while roaming and that their provider would get hit with huge bills for this activity even if the customer was on some $15 a month plan (her example).
So all of the companies had to "clamp down" so that they could protect themselves from this sort of activity.
Well.. she didn't have an answer for me when I asked if my plan (my contract started in March of this year) would be affected. She instead just said it was for all accounts started after July 13th. (but remember, the SE plan is still up being offered today that allows unlimited web browsing, etc)
So now I'm on hold waiting for retention to see if I get any different answers. I'll post again in a few to give you guys the blow by blow.
But in the end, I didn't get an answer even close to what Ed got yesterday - even when I pushed for it. |

PS on that last post....
I also explained that I don't roam.
She also said that this was for all accounts... even corporate liable. |

Just got off the phone with retention. Spoke to Julian , his identifying number is JU302722.
He spent more than a few minutes to see if any letter had been sent out to me, etc. Basically, between this conversation and the one referred to in my prior post, I just wasted 53 minutes and I don't know more now than when I started.
He mentioned at one point that my usage was high for the past two months, so he didn't know if I was going to be "fined" or not. (there's a new one)
Then he still said that the 5 gig cap was on everyone with data cards - but he didn't comment on the possibility of a cap being on the phone usage like the previous CSR did.
Basically, it seemed like he was watching TV or something and he was barely carrying on a conversation with me.
I tried to explain that I tripped into this info while researching Blackberry/Treos and that I was going to get 2 more lines of service with Sprint before tripping into info on the internet (here, of course) that alerted me to the potential of having my internet terminated.
So. I didn't get any answer that holds any water.
These guys still don't know what's going on. |

Sally, we appreciate your persistence, however unproductive.
It is evident that Sprint wants to keep its CS reps clueless. There is just no possibility they could be this flakey if it wasn't intentional. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

I totally agree with you, ebiz.
Let's just say that it's nice to know there is a $35 a month Cricket broadband option for me here in Denver if Sprint shows me the door. |

That is what gets me, the sheer arrogance of these people. We are their customer and paying money for a service. They are not doing us a favour. These big companies seem to forget who is paying their bils. It is us their customers. |

I like your answer Ed.
I have not seen any changes. I've had an account since 07 and just passed my one year mark.
I just looked at the cricket thing but that currently seems to just be for the pc people.
I have been aware that a cap was recently added, but I didn't realize there was this confusion going on over it and the cut off dates.
Any contracts created with unlimited should remain that way for the duration of the contract.
There will be some competition coming along. I'm sad Sprint didn't keep that plan in tact for others.
In the mean time, I'm off to see if this may be the reason the second computer in my house is no longer able to get an internet connection via airport from the first. It was working - and now it doesn't. |

That's the problem. Nobody has "seen" any changes in their service, at least yet that any of us know of. Some of us are waiting to see if the hammer starts to fall this month. The T&C change was in effect on 7/13. And some people were notified on their bills in May and June... and some were not (I wasn't - but I also have a corporate liable account which might be why).
The creepy, rotten thing about this is that Sprint has reserved the right to change it's T&C. So then they did. And the change allows them to just terminate those that use too much of their unlimited. (raise your hands - I'm one of them)
Cricket does have a USB modem that will work for macs. But for the record, this cellular stuff has always been for PC folks until rather recently. But that hasn't stopped me from using them very successfully on Macs since 2003 (you just have to not listen to the carrier and go with someone that knows what they're doing and get a driver that works - it's been fabulous)
If you haven't done so already, I hope you read up on all of the BS that has gone around about this.
And... have you read page two of your PDF bills from May until now to see if they slapped you with the change of T&C? If not, you should see if you might be on their radar.
Just my 2c. |

| I cancelled and I am just waiting for my account to be closed down..probably tomorrow but you never know these days when everything is done over the phone and there is no paper trail. After that I am going to give those other providers a try and I will report back here on my results. |

I check my usage on sprint.com almost daily to see how it compares to what the router says. On 9/20, the following message now appears under my usage:
Estimated usage as of 09/21/2008 Actual bill may
vary. Connect Card plan:data limitations may apply.
Take another look at your account page to see if you have it too. FWIW, I haven't gone over 3 gigabytes in the last 3 months so I'm not a targeted user. It just showed up out of the blue. |

Yep.... I just went to Sprint.com to see what they're presenting to me these days. There were a few differernces.....
Once I got to Sprint's home page and logged in, the next screen took me to a happy little page that recognizes me as a Business Premier member. (wooo hooo - it's good to feel special! just teasin')
Then... under my plan.... I see the same link you saw: "data limitations may apply". So I clicked on it.
The next pop up window presented the statement that the connection card plans are limited to 5 gigs... and that same ol' STUPID, MISLEADING chart that says you get 1.7 million emails in 5 gigs, etc... but then, under it, there was a new little treat:
" Business customers
Please check your contractual agreement for more information about your usage limitations. "
WTF?
I'm a business customer that started a new 2 year agreement in March. So maybe I'm bulletproof until 3/09.
Or not.
Who knows?!?!? (nobody at Sprint, that's fer sure!)
My usage has been waaaaaaay over 5 gigs and now for the last month and a half or so (since learning this BS), I've been trying to keep it down under 10.
If they cancel me for 10, I'm headed off to greener pastures. |
