|

Anybody but me ever do this? In my search for a better signal I used an adaptor to connect an external antenna to my 595u. I had the correct adaptor on the way, but my lack of patience caused me to try an adaptor from an old cell phone that looked pretty close. It did fit in but not perfectly. I tried this combo until I got my correct adaptor and it worked ok. There were no problems the first couple of times trying the incorrect adaptor but now I have no signal when I remove said incorrect adaptor. When I plug incorrect adaptor in I instantly have a good signal. I don't have an antenna that will fit the new correct adaptor (different connector) but I am wondering if there is any fix for my 595u. I guess I must have pushed something in?
thanks,
shannon |

Hello,
It may be possible that you inserted a connector that had a larger "center pin" and when you inserted it, you physically damaged the internal connector, so that when you insert the "correct" one, it no longer makes contact and doesn't work. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| I think you are correct. But I fixed it, sort of. If you take the device apart, four screws on back( two under battery, one by the jack, and one hidden under foil tape opposite of jack), and then remove front cover and remove electronics from rear cover there are two circuit boards connected by slide in pins like a small memory card, one slides into the other. take those apart and you will find a black wire connected to the jack on one side and to the other board on the other side. remove black wire on both ends it just snaps off and on easily. On the non jack board you will see a white wire. disconnect white wire and reconnect it where the black wire was on the non jack board. Basically you are bypassing the external jack. Now my device works just like new except if I want to use external antenna, i must reattach black wire and white wire. I am back to my cantenna (folgers)which worked better than the external antenna anyway. I might even have a better signal now than before. I suppose this is possible, less stuff signal has to travel thru. Hey maybe this will be the latest upgrade for 595u! |

| I did some speed tests and my results are easily on the high end of the dozens, ok , hundreds of tests previously run. Possibly some improvement but maybe not worth the risk of destroying your device. proceed with caution and at your own risk. I would have bought a replacement if this didn't work so I had nothing to lose with a little experimentation. I should have taken pictures. Now just don't lose that little black wire.... |
