Has anyone bothered to fight this charge on your bill for your UM-150 or other USB non-phone modem? It's only 64 cents or something, but I wouldn't think that should apply to a data-only device.

Good point. I never thought about that. Why are we paying 911 surcharges on a data card.

Well.. technically the data cards can make calls... the function is just blocked by the carrier...
However, because they are in theory a "Cell Phone" and are in the carriers computer system as a phone w/ data functions, you have to pay the 911 recovery fee...... this should be changed, but remember the carriers are still figuring out how to be a "data provider/ISP"
I assume sooner or later someone will start a class action suite, and the carriers will fix this "flaw" in there system. (and the next month we will see some new fee) |

Are the carriers able to get away with this charge since some of the data modems (I know the USB720 does) have a GPS chip? That is, if you were ever lost and your laptop battery didn't run down, then you could be rescued!

Much worse than this, all Aircards are subject to all the same taxes and fees as a cell phone. This is so bogus. At least when I had Satellite Internet ( that sux too) The monthly price quoted was the price you actually paid.
