I've been having problems for the past few months with my Verizon BroadbandAccess account (UM-150 modem). Here are the symptoms:

- Consistently seem to be limited to 20KB download speed
- First 2 attempts to connect failed saying (Username and/or password on the domain are invalid).
- Third attempt usually connects fine.
- Connection drops occasionally (every few minutes), but then automatically reconnects on the first try usually.
- RSSI isn't great (-90 to about -110)

HOWEVER, a few months ago I was getting super reliable connection with blazing fast download speeds even with only 1 bar on the modem.

Any ideas?

I just got off the phone with tech support, and they refused to reset my ESN before sending me a new modem...

guess I'll have to wait a few more days.

There was someone who said in a recent thread that they went to their account online, changed their ESN by one digit then changed it back. I can't seem to unearth the thread again, though.

Found it -- it's bladeslap's post in this thread

I too had the same exact problem. I have a Dell with an embedded card (M1330) - Verizon Tech Support was no help. I logged into my account and changd the ESN number by ONE digit (the last digit). I waited 10 minutes since it takes about that long for it to take effect. I then went in and changed the ESN back to the one for my card. This reset it and all works fine now. (I had no choice - VZ tech support closes after 11)

I logged in to my account but can't find the page where you can modify your ESN. How do you do that? Do I have to say I'm upgrading my phone or something?

I'm not a Verizon subscriber -- I just remembered seeing that post -- but my guess is that proceeding as if you were upgrading the phone would be correct.

To change your ESN online you need to have internet access by some means OTHER than the aircard/modem that you're changing the ESN on. Log onto you account and go to "My Phone". Make sure that the phone number for the device that you're changing the ESN for is displayed in the drop down box, then click "upgrade my phone". Enter the ESN that you want to change to (usually add 1 to your present RSN) and follow the instructions. Wait at least ten minutes and then repeat the process using your true ESN. I have done this a few times, and it's worked, but I'm giving NO gaurantees, and you do it at your own risk.

By the way, the reason that you need to do this on another means of internet access is that you can change the ESN to a ficticious one with your aircard/modem; THEN WHAT ???? you can't get back in to change it back !!! Don't ask how I found this out Embarassed
