Usage keeps going up after I put away the modem??

The usage on my VZW Broadband account was getting near its 5GB limit, so I unplugged the modem (USB720) and locked it in a desk drawer, not to see the light of day until the usage resets. I did that on July 9.

On July 11, I looked at my usage page on Verizon's website, and it said I had used 4,362Mb, as of 12:49AM July 11.

I looked again today, and it said that I had used 4,424Mb, as of 12:49AM July 12. So my disconnected, locked-up modem is crawling out late at night, plugging itself in, and surfing cell modem porn??

I am finding VZW's usage numbers VERY suspect.

I am too. Their automated phone system said I'd used 91MB as of 07/10. Well 07/10 about 6:00 in the evening was the first time I'd used my new Verizon account, and all I did was some pinging, speed tests, and light Internet browsing. There's no way I used 91MB worth of data in that one evening.

I find the Usage tracker to be only a estimate that's semi accurate at best. If you have a data tracking utility like DU meter you can always keep tabs on accurate usage.

DU meter always reports more than what the Verizon Usage or totals actually do which is nice. I've seen it change a few hundred meg's difference within a 3 hour time difference.

I think that is bs though if your on the new new contact with overage's it should be up to the minute not lagging behind. What happens if you check and see you have only used 4.2GB and you have a day left till it resets. So you decide to download a large game patch that's 700MB and will leave you within 5GB for that month rather then not use the wasted bandwidth.

But that 4.2GB was only tabulated within a few days of that and when you decided to download that large file your actual usage was 4.7GB. Ya your going to get massive overages.
