I wasn't able to find this via a search... so here's what I got...
I spend a fair amount of time working via my Sprint Aircard in Michigan near the Canadian border. As you may guess, I get hit with roaming charges on a regular basis. Even in Detroit it is possible to pick up a Windsor, Ontario tower. Its becoming a pain. It gets worse in Northern Michigan when I am roaming on Alltel towers. My little SCM Yellow Triangle is lit all the time. I don't have to pay extra to roam on Alltel, but if it bounces to a Canadian roaming partner, I get hit. Is there anyway to determine who owns the tower the card is connected to? Something I can look at, ie the IP Address assigned after the card connects? The gateway address?? Any suggestions?

| I am currently on the other side from you. my cards have a setting to home only. I have aVZ, a bell and a Telus card ( long story) May help you when you are on Sprint but when you roam to Alltel you are pooched. Over here Bell can put a command on your acct in certain areas of the border and prevent you from linking with a US carrier. Not sure if Sprint has that available.. could as I guess. The other option is for you to ask Sprint for a credit since you did not cross the border and was actually in Detroit of Port Huron etc. |

I have asked them for a credit... and they have credited me every time thus far. I appreciate their understanding in this situation, but I would like to be able to prevent it from happening. The service rep I spoke with said that they can block roaming entirely, but that would kill me on Alltel, and that won't work. The search continues! Thanks.
