Howdy Y'all,
With all the new evdo cards out there now, I am curious which ones can be locked to HDR. Below is the list of cards, and what I think. Does anyone have any additions or corrections?
UTStarcom PC5740 - Yes
UTStarcom PC5750 - Yes
Kyocera KPC680 - Yes (using the UM150's QLM temporarily)
UTStarcom UM150 - No
Huawei EC360 - Unknown
Huawei EC228 - No
Thanks for your time.

Anyone know if either of the Huawei modems can be locked to EVDO?
I might have to go to a couple of local stores and see if they have any out for display. If they do I will try to lock it myself. |

I'm new to evdo and the forum. I have an ec228 on the alltel network.
If you will tell me how to lock it into evdo, I will check. |

Thanks for being willing to check, D_K.
When you are disconnected, hover the cursor over the QLM window and type Ctrl-D. When prompted for the password, type in diagsmsi.
You should get a dialog box with a list of three options: Field Test, Settings, and something else I can't remember. Click on Settings and you should get a new dialog. Look for an option that says "HDR only" or something like that.
Sorry for the vague instructions -- writing this from memory. |

I can verify that the EC228 does not have an option to force HDR only. At least, not one I can find. The options I get are Field Test, Manual Activation, and Mobile IP. |

I wonder what is up with the newer cards not being able to force EVDO only modes.
Also, I wonder if you can use older QLM applications with the newer cards to lock it. |

| I tried using the PC5750's version, which can lock into HDR mode, on the UM150 and when I tried to click the button to set it to HDR it said "Device not supported". |

Yes I get those three options also. I clicked Mobil IP and got three options there, Mobil IP off, Mobil IP Preferred, & Mobil IP Only.
I did not try any of them to see what they do. I am out in the country, so I am limited as to towers. When I connect, the main QLM window says 1xEVDO Coverage when I hover over "DO". I am not picking up any other signals. |

I only get Maual Activation, Mobil IP, & Field Test. Under Mobil IP I get three options: Mobil IP Off, Mobil IP Preferred, & Mobil IP Only.
Thank you for these instructions. Under Field Test, It shows real time what the dbm readings are. Now I can experiment with different positions or spots to increase signal strength.
I'm not sure what all the abbreviations stand for, but I will try and figure it out as best I can.
If someone would like, please explain the following values, or at least what is important to signal strength. The following values change when moving my modem around:
CDMA RSSI
CDMA RX Power dbm
CDMA EC/IO db
HDR RX Power dbm
HDR EC/IO db |
