|
|
Hello:
I have purchased a number of items, including Verizon service, from this site company and support has been great. I am writing today as I have a concern over my connection or configuration and am seeking help.
The following config is used in an RV when traveling.
USB727
MBR1000
Omni RV Antenna with Spring Base for Verizon USB727
EVDO Direct Connect Amplifier (3 Watt) (Purchased in hopes to help with better connection when traveling.)
The concern is over the antenna connection.
Doing several, several tests, I do not think the antenna is doing anything but hurting the speeds.
Without the antenna, I get -75 to -80 on the signal and with it I get the same. No changes at all.
If I have the adapter plugged into the USB727 and DO NOT have the other end into the antenna cable, I still get this same. As such, I do not think the USB727 is using it at all. I would think if I plugged in the cable with nothing on it, the single would get really bad.
Can you please advise on how this works. Will it just use the internal antenna unless it needs the other? Just not sure how this works as it seems weird that I get the same results regardless of how it is hooked up. I would expect to see some changes and hope I did not spend all this money for something that just is not used or needed by the card.
HOWEVER, as far as the speeds, this is where it gets funny as then it does seem that the antenna is in fact doing something. But that something is making it worse.
Speed tests....(down/up - 3 tests each)
NO ANTENNA... 1339/425 - 1256/568 - 1342/519
ANTENNA CONNECTED (no AMP)... 1174/549 - 1186/537 - 1052/502
ANTENNA WITH AMP... 1089/653 - 1008/412 - 989/527
Note that the dB did not change at all based on how it was connected, as mentioned above.
I would expect to see some change in dB or speeds that IMPROVE vs DEGRADE. Would I not?
Please help as this is a concern.
Thank you.

When the pigtail adapter is plugged into the modem the internal antenna disconnects. If you don't have an antenna attached to the pigtail you shouldn't be getting any (or very little) signal at all. Make sure the adapter is firmly pushed in and is snug. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Hi Jim:
Thank you kindly for the reply.
Yes, that is what I had kind of thought that somehow it disconnects the other.
I have pressed it in as far as it will go I am sorry to say. It is not the best connection on this little cards, but it does seem to be in. Maybe the center pin is not making contact or the USB card itself is defective.
I am waiting to hear back from support on it to see what they may say. I am willing to try another adapter just in case.
Thank you again. |

Hello,
The support department will reply to you tomorrow (Monday). I have made a note for them to send out a replacement adapter cable, that may solve the problem. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hello Michael..
Thank you kindly. I did leave my phone # and what have you so they should be able to look me up.
I hope it is just the cable and not the USB727 as I am not sure how that would work getting it resolved.
I did all this so I could be sure to have good access when traveling in the RV. You see, I own and operate AVSForum.com (the largest Home Theater AV forum on the net) and thus need the access.
Thank you kindly for your help and support.

Well, it is either going to be the cable or the card.
Hard to tell right now.
Replacing the cable is the easy way, especially, since you mention that it doesn't feel like it fits.
If you want to help us figure this out, take some close up pictures (macro mode on your camera) of the card end of the cable and the connector in the USB727 and send it in via email (just reply to your support ticket). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I've got a U727 (Sprint) with antenna adapter cable too. Noticed that when the adapter is plugged into the U727 that it doesn't plug firmly in (just sets in) and there's no detent feel or snugness. I thought that was the way it was supposed to be. Should I be pressing into the U727 a little harder?
If I switch from Sprint to Verizon, can my U727 be switched over too or would I need another USB card?
Can a U727 be "flash programmed" for a service provider switch? |

I get that after a lot of plug/unlug cycles. I just use a pair of pliers to gently bend the prongs on the cable connector to that it snuggs up nicely.
