|
|
I have recently ordered a UM150VW modem for my "hopeful" broadband trial period with Verizon.
My question:
We have (2) computers in the house.
The first one is a desktop where the the modem will be stationed. It does not have a wifi adapter yet it has a ethernet controller pci card.
The second computer is a Dell laptop with both Wifi and Ethernet ports.
We are now wired through a Dlink "Wired" router EBR-2310 with satellite service.
What router should I consider if I would like to retain the wired system to each computer. I suppose I could always use the Wifi on the laptop, but I would prefer to use the wired system already in place.
Thank you in advance! _________________ Gary |

Beyond a doubt the Cradlepoint MBR1000 is your best choice _________________ evdo-tips.com |

yes jim, you are right. CTR500 only has one ethernet port.
if he went with CTR500, he'd have to use laptop with wifi. |

| The Cradlepoint MBR1000 works well, the only real downside being that it doesn't allow for external antennas. |

Another question ...
If I choose the MBR1000 (seems like the best choice), can I use the USB port on the back of the router next to the reset button to feed the main desktop computer via USB rather than one of the LAN ports?
I suspect my ethernet card may be slowing things down.
Thanks in advance! _________________ Gary |

negative, the usb port is a WAN connection only. Check the duplex mode on your Ethernet card, I'd put it either on Auto or Full if its not already. _________________ evdo-tips.com |

Thanks,
I checked and it is set to Auto-Negotiation already.
It may be fine. _________________ Gary |

Thanks everyone,
I just received my MBR1000 router and would like advice on the best procedure to set it up on my XP system.
I am presently using VZAccess to connect my UM150 via USB on my desktop system.
What is the correct procedure for installing the router and UM150 modem so I don't screw something up. I want to end up with my desktop system and (1) laptop connected via LAN ethernet, and the ability to use that laptop wirelessly around the house also.
I will also be running a pair of ethernet wires to my future Directv HD DVR for internet access from the HD receiver.
Thanks 3Gstore for the flawless transaction & shipping of my router! _________________ Gary |

Your router came with a quickstart quide and a tip sheet from 3gstore.
that should get you going pretty quickly.
feel free to call in on monday for more expert guidance from 3gstore tech support... thanks for being a customer! |

What about the VZaccess Manager? Will it see the router (and modem) or do I need to tell it anything.
Also, will I need to install VZaccess on the laptop I intend to network with?
Thanks _________________ Gary |
