|
|
CradlePoint has just released Firmware Version 2.2 for their CTR350 and PHS300 routers, that provides official support for even more EVDO and HSDPA USB modems, expresscards and phones/PDA's.
The new firmware is also the first to provide official support for international carrier devices, starting with Bell and Telus in Canada.
Full info is in our EVDOinfo release:
CradlePoint CTR350 and PHS300 Firmware 2.2 Released: Now Supports More EVDO and HSDPA Devices

This is from the official PDF release notes:
| Quote: | At customer request, added direct RSSI reading to Status -> Modem Info page.
This page will now show Signal Strength as a % and as dBm (negative values). 100% = -74 dBm |
See? cradlepoint DOES listen to customer "demands"...
some things just take more time than others. thats life.
here's what it looks like on my PHS300 with my USB727:

One more cool thing... certain devices will allow for "signal bars" to appear on the "Status" admin page, like this:
our exhaustive testing has produced this list of devices that WILL show signal bars on Cradlepoint's Status admin page:
Novatel U720/USB720
Novatel U727/USB727
Novatel EX720/V740
Sierra Wireless 595U
Sierra Wireless 597U
Sierra Wireless 597E
Sierra Wireless 875U
Sierra Wireless 881U
These were tested and WILL NOT show signal bars in admin:
Franklin CDU550
Franklin CDU680
Sprint U680
Pantech UM150 (like it matters)
If someone tests devices NOT on this list, please add to this thread. |

Ummm...that link goes to the Firmware 2.1 page, not the 2.2 page.
http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2386/64/
That's the 2.2 page.
Hopefully, that signal strength indicator will work on the KPC 680's. I really need that. |

Also, there's no "possiblity" to this, it's absolute certainty: the firmware update will take your 350 to factory defaults. Dummy me didn't back up the old settings and it took hours to get my 350 to cooperate with my wireless n d-link.
So, if you plan on updating, don't take shortcuts, back up the old settings! |

CradlePoint released 2.2.1 for the CTR350 and PHS300. According to the read me file:
| Quote: | | Fixed defect where “Remember Me” functionality on the “Access Granted” client_authorized.html web page would not survive a power cycle. |
We encourage all customers running 2.2.0 to upgrade to this version. If you are running 2.2.0, log in to your router, goto firmware page and click "Upgrade Router with version 2.2.1". Your settings should survive the upgrade, BUT it is a good idea to always make a backup of all your changes.
Also, starting today, anyone that has 3Gstore upgrade their router to the latest firmware, we will now upgrade the CTR350/PHS300 to 2.2.1 _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Is there any news on the CTR 500 getting an upgrade.
Just bought the Cradlepoint but AT&T doesn't sell the GT MAX anymore, I had to buy a GT Ultra instead which I learnt, later, isn't compatible at the moment
( I know I should have checked the spec sheet... call it an impulse mistake) _________________ Paul Davis |

CTR500 is based on MBR1000 chipset and firmware for both will typically follow CTR350/PHS300 by 3-6 weeks.
so the firmware you need is likely to be out "soon", but we don't make any promises about when, exactly. |

|
|
Found the link after long hours:
http://www.cradlepoint.com/techsupport/phs300support.php
to download the 2.2.1 firmware for PHS300.
BTW, this update allows use of PHS300 in Switzerland with the Swisscom USB HSPA modem oem from HuaWei with no model number.
Great speed, $10 a month 2 year subscription, $1 for the modem. $4.50 each day you use it during the next 2 years.
Only catch is you need a Swiss to buy it and a Swiss billing address.
Most of the country has HSPA (3G) and my connection speeds are over 1.2Mb download and over 750Kb upload in the suburbs of Basel.
Trick to MacOSX setup. Hint: look for the phone number to dial *99***1# and you need to find the german menu option to disable PIN requirement each time you connect. Once you do that, you can either connect via OSX Network panel (like any Sprint EvDO chip) or just plug it into a PHS300 with firmware 2.2.1 applied and you have broadband!!!

I don't see anything in the article about support for Bell EVDO. Bell is selling the same Novatel U720 card as Sprint and Verizon but it doesnt show up in the compatibility list. I spoke to customer support today but they didn't give me a guarantee Bell is compatible, anyone know if a Bell Novatel U720 will work.
Thanks |

| I also don't see any details about which bell devices are compatible with PHS300/CTR350 etc. I would like to know if the Blackberry 8830 on the bell EVDO network is compatible. Does anyone know? |
