Well I was going to go to att, i've had my phones there for 9 years and was hoping they wouldn't harass me if I go over the 5gb, which I will. I've used 7gb on sprint this month and still have a week left.
I figure I'll ride Alltel out until they change their policy, hopefully it'll be down the road, but I dunno.
I'm southeast florida and their coverage looks pretty good, there's a store up the road gonna go see if i can give it a try before i buy. |

I got my service awhile ago and think its great for the time being. Also just because Verizon is buying Alltel doesn't exactly mean they will put a limit on it, at least not what I heard...Its just speculation.
If they do put restrictions on it apparently they can't change it while you are in your 2 year contract term if you do sign up by that. |

Yeah, but here's what you agreed to when you signed that contract (older contracts have even more prohibitions): Alltel's Terms and Conditions:
"Prohibited uses include, but are not limited to, . . using the services for any activity that adversely affects the ability of other people or systems to use either the services or other parties' Internet-based resources including, but not limited to excessive consumption of network or system resources (whether intentional or unintentional) . . .
Alltel reserves the right to (1) limit throughput or amount of data transferred, deny service &/or terminate service, without notice, to anyone it believes is using the service in any manner prohibited above or whose usage adversely impacts its network or service levels & (2) protect its network from harm, which may impact legitimate data flows."
I'm also not seeing the word "unlimited" associated with Alltel's wireless internet plans anymore (only unlimited wi-fi).
I'd hoped that Alltel would stay "unlimited" but I doubt it now. They don't have the capacity to absorb the heavy users from Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. |

It's the small print that'll get ya. I've always said that despite the things going on with Alltel like the proxy and selling out to Verizon, they've always been generous by not actually fully enforcing their terms and agreements.
In fact, if they did, they'd be WORSE than Verizon as they would not be obligated to define what "excessive consumption" is. Pay particular attention to the "devices which aggregate usage from multiple sources prior to transmission" part which would insinuate the use of routers and switches.
The thinking man would assume that they can slap a bandwidth limit on you and/or disconnect you for using routers and switches without breaching their side of the contract. It's what we signed right before saying "thank you". |

I went to a local Alltel store here and they had some things hanging up advertising Unlimited wireless internet.
Also from what I hear it will take until the end of the year to push the limit (not sure if its true). |

| What you see hanging and what they tell you is easily trumped by what you sign on paper. |

| Yea the TOS does make me nervous, that's why I had originally planned on going with att seems to be about the same headache and I already have my phones with them. |

I'm gonna give att a try and see if they get on my case. |

ok so i lied, btw the alltel plan does say unlimited when you get to check out.
I ordered a UM150, was $40 after rebate, no other fees.
I emailed alltel, told them i use 6 to 10 gigs per month and I wanted to know if that was going to be ok up front, they quickly replied with a yes. so we shall see.
I figure i will give them a try and see how it goes, i'll keep ya posted! |

Ditto. I'm another Sprint refugee. I told the sales person what i wanted it for, and he didn't see any problems, not that I expected he would. He wants a sale.
We'll see how it goes. |
