The WIMAX test in Baltimore begins in September, http://news.cnet.com/8301-10784_3-9972229-7.html . This is a call for Baltimore EVDO forum members to stand up and be counted. We need first hand experience and reports.
http://evdomaps.com shows 4 Sprint members there, but there are undoubtedly more. Heck, you may even be able to take up a collection here to buy your WIMAX data card. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

Ebiz, Do you know if Sprint is planning on updating all of their current EVDO towers to Wimax? |

Have no idea. Don't even know anything about the network technology yet. However, WIMAX will roll out from the big cities first. The success of the test in Baltimore and the subsequent rollouts in Washington DC and Chicago will have a lot to do with the speed and strategy of the national rollout. The depth of the recession will undoubtedly influence it too. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

Sup,
I'm out in the nether-regions of northern Baltimore County, MD (zipcode 21136); 10-15minutes north of Hunt Valley and 10-15min south of PA line.
I'm in the woods and this is my only form of internet available, I even bought one of those boosters, it helps alot.....
I'll report in if it makes it out here, but it might be like 3g, only in the city, EVDO Rev A reaches out into the hills where I am, - 80db steady... I first bought an ATT&T Aircard and it only got me EDGE (fast dialup), but then I met some people in my travels in the local taverns and they used Sprint, so here I am. _________________ necbone |

It is suppose to be operating in Baltimore within the next 8 weeks so we will see a Wimax coverage map soon. Be interesting to see how much coverage the suburbs get. Good luck. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

I'm definitely curious about the WiMax patterns in B'more so I can try to guess how it will be in Northern VA during the "DC" launch. _________________ --Larry |

Ok.... the guy at Altius really didn't seem to care too much.... I guess their rich quasi-businessmen
I called, no one picked up initially, it went to the extension lists, I was thinking to myself, a business shouldn't be running like this, so I hit 0 and some dude picked up.
Told him I needed some residential assistance because their site doesn't list prices (raised flags).... He said installation would be $300 and the monthly fee would be $55 (no more than $60).
I asked what's up with the installation, he said he needed to install a special antenna to my house to communicate "specifically" with their tower... I asked him if he was sure about the antenna (from reading around here, I should be fine w/o one; I have a booster for my 597 currentyl and I'm between -90db to -80db consistently), he said of course...
So I told him that I needed help to get out of my Sprint contract and he asked how long, I told him I have a year and a half left=P He said he couldn't help me, that didn't bother me, I guess I cant expect that...
What bothered me is $300 installation.... He didn't even want to work with me in trying to save some money, because like I told him, it would cost me $500 to get everything rolling with them ($200 cancellation fee + 500 installation).... Told him I guess I have to wait for Fios, which is going to destroy their business if they don't start helping out people like me.... Everyone in this neighborhood has sprint or verizon...
I also mentioned their marketing was weak... Never even heard of this company... I got the same vibe from talking to this dude as I dude with Wild Blue=P _________________ necbone |
