Is the KPC680 Rev. A capable?
I see on this forum that it may not be, however, the Kyocera website says it is.
Is it just the Alltel version that is not? Any information would be appreciated as I am trying to get ready for Rev A.
If not, since I use a Cradlepoint 350, looks like the UM150 would be my only option. |

| I just got the card, and all cards sold after July 1st at retail stores are "suppose" to be "c" cards. This is the 3rd kpc 680 I have had in less than a month and the "c" card is rev a. I tested it tonight and got rev a upload speeds. |

| If I'm not mistaken, it is Rev A capable. I suppose I have one of the first editions of the 680 and the rep told me that it was Rev A but naturally, they didn't have Rev A in our area yet. |

My understanding from talking to tech support at Alltel is that 680 a and b cards can be made to be rev a with a software upgrade, but it has not been made/released yet, and they had no date or time that it would be. I hope its soon.
Here is a speed test with my kpc 680 c card connected directly to my laptop.
I am still not to happy with the speeds I am getting connected to the kr2. The latancey and the upload are both a lot better, but the download is around 500kbps give or take some. It does jump up to 1 Mb from time to time though. I am going to upgrade the "KR2 router" firmware tonight, but I do not have a network cable with me now to do, and everything I have read say to not try the upgrade over the air.

The only way I know to get Rev. A on Alltel's KPC 680 is to buy or "some people say they have been able to exchange the older card" for one sold after 1 July 2008 (the KPC 680 c build). I really hope I am (WRONG) but that is what I have seen from my own experience, and been told from Alltel techs.

| Based on your upload speed it looks as if you are already on Rev. A. |

| Can't speak for obtaining new firmware, was asking because you said something about loading new firmware. As for the exchange, I was told yesterday by a rep at the local Alltel corporate store that anyone who bought their card from a corporate store can bring it in and they will "DOA" the old 680 and get them the new 680c on the spot. The situation is a little different if you went through an "Authorized Agent" instead of a corporate store. The retail stores would not exchange my card. I had to go back to the agent I had purchased my card from, then I had to contact Alltel tech support, describe the issues I had been having, they had me try adding an AT code to the modem initialization. It took less than 30 seconds for my card to drop into dormancy. They told me they were adding a note to my account and to take my card into a retail store for replacement. Hopefully I will be getting my new card today. |

Sorry, I see now how my post might of lead to some confusion. I edited my post, and added "KR2 router" to clarify the firmware being upgraded. |

To upgrade the KPC 680 firmware yourself goto
software.alltel.com
My local alltel stores would not do a DOA for me. Since I had the card too long. I did the firmware upgrade and I was golden. |
