Well, it is official. I have decided to leave Sprint Broadband due to the recently imposed cap, and also to avoid any further ridiculous conversations with its incredibly ignorant and misinformed CS reps. Each encounter with them just makes me want to smack them upside of the heads many, many times!

If I hadn't done my research properly in this forum and found out about my rights, I might have been led into believing that the reps were correct - they kept saying that I could not get out of my contract without and ETF, and many were ignorant of the 5gb cap!! Sprint, if you do not buck up and at least train your CS frontline people a bit more, you're going to end up losing many irate customers who simply won't put up with such ineptitude and stupidity! I certainly would not be surprised with Sprint losing a couple of hundred thousand more customers by the end of the second quarter, given their scandalously retarded handling of this whole 5gb cap issue...

Anyway, I'm left with a trusty Novatel U720 modem that works well, which I do not have any use for anymore. Any ideas on how to dispose of it and sell it for something?? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Paulie

I bought my 720 on Ebay. I read elsewhere on this board that a few board members have been experimenting with cracking open the 720 and installing the card inside their laptops as a "built-in" EVDO device so perhaps one of our board members would be interested. Out of curiosity, where are you headed?

I too am leaving Sprint at the end of this billing cycle. Ebay or craigslist would be my choice for U727 and Cradlepoint CTR350.

that's the million dollar question isn't it? The caps are everywhere, except Alltel, and it won't be long before they get gobbled up by verizon, if they haven't all ready.

I've pretty much faced the fact that I'm going to have to live with the cap for a while.

I am doing a radical rethink of my usage model. It won't be the same, but I think it'll force me to be more "productive" with my net usage and time.

I have been looking at all the Sprint smartphones recently, and have more or less decided on the Blackberry Curve, which I'll combine with the Sprint Simply Everything plan so that I'll have constant access to my emails, some RSS feeds, etc.

For the "heavy lifting," I'll have to either rely on my wifi or home connection (which makes sense as EVDO Rev. A pretty much tops out at 1.5 mbps for me.) This is actually a decent compromise for me, because as Wayne points out, there are sneaky ways of downloading streaming movies and other streaming content off the net when you are on a solid and fast connection, and this way you optimize your network usage by taking advantage of fast wifi and home connections when really fast throughput can be really exploited!

Quick question about the Ebay issue. I actually have both a U720 and U727 to dispose of, as I've been using Sprint broadband for a while now. I haven't used my ebay account for many transactions in the past (last thing I bought was 2 years back!), and have NEVER sold anything with my ebay account. With the low rating/feedback score on there, would it be difficult to sell my U720 and U727??

Also, what would be a fair price for the U720 and U727?

Paulie

Leicabug,

Is it difficult to sell things on Craigslist especially when you're dealing with out-of-staters, or do you just advertise locally?

Here is a U720 eBay auction that will be closing in 1 hour 50 minutes. It will give you an idea of where business is getting done.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330245022833

Postscript
The auction ended with a winning bid of $55.99. While that tells you the market for now, it will be dropping as a number of cards will be for sale from those canceling due to the cap. Once that supply is purchased it should stabilize again.

Craigslist may be better for you. Just offer to meet the person at the Sprint store so they can verify the ability to activate it. Unfortunately, since Sprint requires a 2 year contract just to activate, your market is really to someone looking to replace a broken card or to have a spare because they are clumsy. Just don't get your hopes up for a great price.
