I've had Alltel for about 2 months now and realy love the service. It is far better than my other two options (dial-up and sattelite).

However there is one thing that agrevates me. My um150 will drop to 1x and will stay there, it will not switch back to DO. I have to disconect and as soon as i do it shows a DO signal angain. I can then reconnct and all is well for a while.

I am using an amplifier and antena. My signal is typicaly very stable ~-80 RSSI DO. The 1x signal is typicaly a little weaker at ~-85 RSSI.
If I check the signal strength while it is stuck in 1x it shows a DO signal of -125. However as soon as I hit disconnect it will pick up the DO signal again at its usual strength.

I cant figure out what is causing this.. I have a feeling that if I could lock the device in DO I would not have this problem, but QLM wont allow it. I know the card can be locked on other carriers.

I also cannot reliably cause the modem to do this, it seems to be to be mostly random. Heavy dowlloads don't seem to be a problem. If anything it seems to do it more often when I play games. However it will do it at random when just surfing.

I get -69 to -72 for my RSSI, but I still drop to 1x sometimes and it sticks. I just power cycle the modem (turn it off then back on) and it fixes it. It's very weird and not sure why it does it.

I dont have to power mine off or unplug it. Just push disconnect in QLM and then reconnect. It goes right back to DO, might stay for the full 12hrs, and might only stay a few minutes.

If your connection drops to 1xRTT, it won't go back to EVDO unless your connection goes dormant. This sucks if you are in the middle of a download, games, or actively using your connection. Once it goes dormant, it will switch back to EVDO own its own.

This is the sole reason I will not buy a modem that I can't lock to EVDO. Which sucks if I can't upgrade my PC5750 to RevA when it comes available.

The update from May of last year enabled Rev A on the 5750.

So a different card is the only way to fix this. Which cards can be locked, and does any one know alltel's policy on activating cards not purchased through them.
