|
|
Hi,
Network: wrt54g3g-st with BB card- Main internet connection.
one WinXP, IIS, MySql, PHP server
one WinXP, Apache, MySql, PHP server
one Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP server
one Linux playbox
one Solaris 10 x86 playbox,
one Win98 playbox
one Win95 playbox
and one WinXP Home machine.
one Netgear router as a printserver
I've been using a host list based on IP addresses and reserving the individual address by MAC address for the DHCP server to give out
that matches the host list. Now this router doesn't seem to have any
reservation system, and I don't run a DNS service on any of my machines. Also I may have only one or two machines up at once.
Any way to make the router give out ips per MAC? Or, use some other form of host resolution?
Thanks,
Joe |

I guess I'll be trying. One or two of the machines are portable, so I really don't want them static which is why being able to reserve the address was so great.

| In the same place you tell your computer (IP Properties) to use DHCP, look for the Alternate Configuration tab. You can put a static IP address in there. When you are on a net with a DHCP router, you will get a DHCP address. When you are on a net with no DHCP router, it will default to the specified static address, WINS, DNS and Gateway info you have provided. |

About alternate tab, yes, good for one machine. The other I have a static on the wireless connection which has no alt. The other main ones are Linux. I just changed them to static.
Thank you,
