I found this adapter on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/4X-Female-USB-A-to-Ethernet-RJ45-Male-Adapter-Connector_W0QQitemZ150254645864QQihZ005QQcategoryZ67279QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I have been searching for a way to use airport express as router for my compass 597. Airport express only accepts ethernet internet connection. However, it has a feature called airtunes that I like using. Otherwise I would use another router. Is this my solution?[/i]

Well I just ordered one. It says it could take up to 20 days before I receive it because it's coming from Hong Kong!! I'll let everyone know how this turns out. If it works then this could be used to connect a USB modem to a router that only has an ethernet connection; a cheap way to create a network with internet when you have a USB modem and a typical router.

yes, do let us know how that works out for you.

but i'll tell you in advance, why i think it won't work.

see its not just a matter of getting it to attach to your router.

the router has to know what to do with it.

when you attach a USB modem like the Compass 597 (or ANY usb modem), the computer you've attached it to, has to have drivers or connection manager in order to utilize the modem.

the airport extreme will not recognize the USB modem because it was never designed to.

what you need is a CTR350 that will recognize the Compass 597, manage the connection to sprint, and allow you to connect your airport express to the CTR350 via ethernet.

I saw the CTR350 and it is great. However, I can't connect speakers for airtunes. I head a church band and choir and most members don't read music. So I often have to quickly download a song and allow them to listen to it. To do this I need an internet connection and full stereo sound via airtunes. Computer speakers don't give me the sound I need. Also I have software that will allow me to use my iPod Touch to visually control which song is played including pausing. This makes it possible for me to walk around and teach. Additionally, I need this system to be extremely portable (your solution works but more equipment to handle). This is why I got excited about this adapter. if it does not work, it's no biggie. I paid less than $10 to try something I desperately need. Thanks!!!

I agree 100% with Alex, the Airport Extreme/Express/Time Capsule does not have the proper drivers built-in to know what to do with a USB EVDO Modem. It would be like hooking up a USB Hard Drive to a CradlePoint Router - it doesn't have the code built-in to do anything with it.

However, let us know.

Going with a CTR350, disabling Ethernet and then plugging the CTR350 into your AirPort Express would allow things to work and you can still use AirTunes like you do now. We have tested this setup, so we know it works.

Alex and Michael you guys are the experts. But since I've ordered it I might as well try it. I will order the CTR350 when I see that the adapter does not work. I'm a stubborn mule!!!
