My alltel EVDO card is listed as a Curitel card. It works. Just curious, could I get a booster antenna and/or use the kyocera K1 router card you've noted recently?
I'm new to evdo.
Will EVDO networks allow you to use any card?
I'm living in a neighborhood without any cable or dsl options, so i'm trying out evdo, but need to spread the connection out to my home network over a wired LAN network. Thanks for any responses

I have tested the KR1 with many Verizon cards and a Sprint Merlin S620, I do not expect any problems with a Kyocera Alltel card, since it is the same card as the Verizon Kyocera KPC650. You would just need to activate the card on your laptop first and then you can insert it into a KR1.
Currently, there is not EVDO roaming, so if you purchase a Verizon EVDO card, it will not work over EVDO on AllTell. However, there was a press release some time ago, where Verizon and AllTell announced 1xRTT roaming. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

So i went to alltel and exchanged for the kyocera 650 card. Works well, but even outside my second story balcony it's 3bars and occasional cut outs. broadband reports speed tests: 900kbs down, 90kbs up or so.
next step is the KR1 (hurry hurry hurry) so I can network the house, and far more importantly, set up some type of amplified antenna outside to get a stable 4bar access.
Thanks again for responding.
If you are bored, I'd love to start hearing/planning about what's involved with a powered antenna. Do i bother trying the little plug in kind, or go straight to an external antenna and big amp? Ciao- |

| Why do you need a booster antenna? I'm in a rural area just outside of Oklahoma City where EVDO is offered, and I get 100% signal on a Kyocera Passport inside my house. My data card is in a desktop computer sitting on the floor, not in a laptop. So the, what's the point of a booster antenna? It's not going to give you faster speeds. |
