|
|
| Is it possible to use 2 different internet sources at the same time for different computers? Not load sharing... But using computer A and using KPC680 data card, and computer B using UM150 USB card. Both data cards attached to the KR2 router and each using their "respective" cards to connect to the internet at the same time. I can't think of a way to do it, since the router only seems to use one IP address at a time to connect to the web and only seems to support one such connection at a time. I am not looking to do the fail connection, but use each data card on each computer at once at the same time. We do large file transfers and it would save a lot of time if each could use his/her own data card. The reason we use the KR2 and not direct connection is because we need to use a booster (we have wireless), but having to rig both computers up within a foot or too of the wireless booster is crowded, to say the least... |

| Unfortunately there is no way to do this with KR2 (or any other EVDO router that I know of). KR2 utilizes only one physical WAN interface at any given moment and cannot be configured to use two at once. |

| Yeah, Thats the conclusion I came to, but thought maybe there was a way to "trick" it thru VPN. I guess load sharing would work but I know that is not supported at this time (or by any router that I am aware of). I had read somewhere I thought that cradlepoint was looking into making a router capable of load sharing (or possibly thru a firmware upgrade, but that seems rather far fetched).... Just trying to come up with a creative solution. I could get a better wireless booster with more internal range, but the whole setup from booster to router has to be small, portable, and easily set up and taken down again. My work site moves every 30 days in a rural area (nearest town, and I mean 5k population town, is usually 10-25 miles away). Oh well, at least what we got works, if somewhat crowded. Thanks for the reply... |

It shouldn't be too difficult to get this working on a router like the WL500g premium with USB interfaces running Openwrt (a small linux distribution). And if load-balancing is required then that should be straightforward.
Unfortunately, I don't have 2 USB cellular modems and the associated data plans to get this working.
Could you get around this problem using another Kyocera router ? |

I could, but really don't want to shell out another 250 bucks or so if I can help it. Plus the extra powercords, shelf space... We live and work in basically a portable construction shack... I can touch both walls across at the same time and about 5 feet short on the long end... Throw in that this space is also our living room, kitchen, work area (with 3 work computers, plus a wall full of electronics to go with them), space and plug ins become an issue...
If I buy another router, that will bring my total up to about 800+ just for the 2 routers, and booster... Starting to get a little spendy on my pocketbook... |

I have a VZW USB720 running on a Linksys WRTSL54GS and think I paid under $89 for the router through newegg. (3rd party firmware though and firmware for a different model (WRT54G3G but works)
Might be able to add a cheap switch before the routers and use two routers each with a differernt gateway and set each PC with the desired gateway. I'll see if I can set up a working system with my two routers and a switch. _________________ A simple man. |
