Here is a fix for Error 920:
First, make sure you have gone into Options and Activation with the VZ Access Manager.
With VZ Access Manager open, Press [CTRL] + [T] at the same time. A black dialogue box should appear.
Type in lower case with no spaces:
at$qcmipep=1 Press Enter on the keyboard and it should be followed with OK
at$qcmipp=0 Press Enter on the keyboard and it should be followed with OK.
Press [ALT]+[F4] keys at the same time and that will close the black dialogue box.
Reboot the computer and restart, go into VZAM and try connecting.

Using an embedded WAN card on a Dell laptop with 32-bit Vista, and using the Dell WAN card utility. Was having error 913 come up after an updat and could never get a connection. I reinstalled the software from the Dell website and then started getting error 691 come up instead of 913 when trying to connect. Called Verizon and got to tech support who initially tried to get me to go through a number of steps which didn't help: Reinstall (did that already), update firmware (did that already), and delete the 3G entries under dial-up under network connections. The tech alluded to a "reset" of sorts that could be done on their end but wouldn't until I went through the other steps.
I called again today and got a different tech. I specifically asked them if they could do the reset on their end. The tech had me shut the computer down. Then he did the reset, called a "DMU refresh," which basically refreshes the authentication configuration for the data card on their side (the tech could not tell me what DMU actually stands for). I started the computer back up, started the card utility, and whoa-la! It works!
If you get this error, specifically ask a tech to do a DMU refresh for the device, and it should fix the problem. It seems that the update the device received caused a change in the authentication information on the device, which causes the authentication server to no longer recognize it. |

| This appeared to have worked for me. After having constant disconnects and slow speeds, I removed and added my ESN through verizonwireless.com and after re-activating everything is working back to normal. |

Another success story here. I spent 18 months (yes) struggling with constant authentication failures and getting disconnected two minutes into a session, with VZW tech support telling me variously "We can't support Macs very well, find a Windows machine and call us back", "I'm out of ideas, I'll take your number and have someone call you later", and my personal favorite, "I don't know, maybe it will clear up by itself"; I followed the instructions on this thread and now my 595U works perfectly.
I just used the VZW webpage to change equipment (my ESN + 1), waited two hours, changed it back, waited 20 minutes, then activated using the VZW software. No more problems and my connection is rock-solid. My transfer speeds are still in the 70 kbyte/sec range, but that's good enough for me.
Thanks to all who posted here! |

| Hi Folks: New guy on the block. My connectivity issues are that the modem connects but won't let me on the internet. Verizon tech yesterday made me download the latest modem updates off their site and install them. It worked for one session but when I logged on again in the evening it would not let me on the net. Techie said I was having the ras error 691 and should go to microsoft.com for a fix. But I don't see one there. I'd like to try what many of you have mentioned- removing and replacing the ESN. Since I am a newbie on this - could you tell me what the ESN is? Thank you! |
