I recently purchased a cradlepoint mbr1000 to use with my compass 597 mobile broadband card. Is it possible to enable/disable the compass in the router? I had to pull the card out of the router, plug it into the usb of my pc, enable it and then put it back in the router for it to work. I would assume I would have to do the same to disable. Am I missing something here or is the compass just supposed to stay enabled (on) in the router all the time?

not sure what your objective is...

once inserted into mbr1000, the router will establish and maintain a connection.

you don't need to enable/disable the compass while its attached to router.

when you need to access the internet, you just make sure you are connected to mbr1000 via wifi or ethernet.

hope this helps.

I'm running the same setup as you are. I'm not aware of any reason you'd need/want to disable the 597. You could disconnect the EVDO connection (or just turn the router off) if you really wanted to stop its use. But perhaps I'm not seeing the reason why you wanted to disable it in the first place.

Mine stays on all the time; even though it's only actively in use sometimes. I've been running my Verizon card/service that way for 2 years, I've not read any recommendations otherwise.

I can see why one may want to do this and in fact, I wondered about how I could do the same thing with my CTR350. With the 5GB cap looming, I would like to be able to disconnect from the "network" without having to unplug my AC595U thus running the battery down. The modem passes a certain amount of traffic whether you are surfing or not. That's my reason. The OP may be thinking of something else.
