Has anyone had success with this utility? I have a Sprint Novatel Merlin EX720. I can connect using the standard Mac (Leopard 10.5.2) drivers, but connection speeds are very slow (it takes minutes to load cnn.com), even in areas with strong signals.

I thought it might be a driver issue, so I went to the Sprint downloads website and downloaded SmartView for Mac. It installed OK, sees the express card, but shortly after prompting for my Apple password, I get a message stating "Novatel Wireless 3G Unplug Notice", which goes on to report that the modem has been unplugged. Sure enough, the light is out, and the connection manager no longer detects the card/modem.

Sprint tech support scratched their heads. Any ideas on 1) how I can improve/optimize my connection speed using the default Apple drivers; and 2) what do I need to do to get the Sprint SmartView utility to work properly?

Thanks.

Most likely it is a problem with 2 drivers trying to simultaneous access the same hardware.

Drag the Leopard drivers into a folder on the desktop and restart. There are several and I ain't gonna try to name em all.

That could very well be. The EVDO modem still appears in my System Preferences under Network.

Where are the Leopard drivers normally retained? Are you recommending moving them all, or just the ones that appear related to the Novatel CDMA by name?

Thanks.

Leopard has once again trashed my years of consulting experience... Twisted Evil

I know this is probably the answer but not exactly how to implement it. Maybe Apple Support?

MacByNight, I am having the exact same problem. How did you solve it? I will need instruction as I just unwrapped my new Macbook Pro, so I am feeling newbie. Thanks, Marcos.

Does anyone have a fix for this yet? I've noticed it seems to happen far more often when I have too many programs open.

Thanks!

The best I have been able to do is: boot the Mac and let the Novatel unit startup with a green light. MAKE SURE THE SPRINT SMARTVIEW APP IS NOT RUNNING. After a couple seconds of green light, then start the application. It should work fine. The problem is only occuring for me when the smartview application is running at the time the computer is waking up, say from sleep. Otherwise, it works great.
