HELP!!! MBR1000 and Verizon USB720 problems!

I just got my cradlepoint MBR1000 (latest firmware) router in and plugged in my Verizon USB720 EVDO Rev. A card into and set it up with WPA2 security, and it is literally running at less than half the speed than if i plug it into my laptop directly. For example I plug my card into my laptop and connect then go to a speed test site and I get around 800 to 1000 down and about 500 down, but if i plug it into the mbr1000 i get maybe 400 to 500 down and like 200 up. I have checked and made sure nothing else was connected to the router except my laptop. It's almost like it's not taking advantage of the rev. a speeds but i could be wrong. Do i need to enter a username and password into the modem settings or change some settings somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
