has Sprint charged you (or told you it will charge) an overage fee?

So far, Sprint has indicated it "has the right to" cancel your account, if you use more than 5 GB/month on your data card. It has said nothing about charging an excess usage fee for data card holders. The excess usage charges are for cellphone connections.

It has to notify you of the 5 GB cap first (although you may have negated that requirement by your calls to CS about the 5 GB cap). See this message to see if you were notified.

LOL funny stuff.

Don't you just love how they throw the 1% out like it's the word of God and some people actually fall for the "99% of Data card users download less than 5 gigs" ???They are putting the cell phone data users in the 5 gig percentage, which I will admit it would be pretty hard to use 5 gigs on a cell phone.

Hell, even a gig a day average isn't hard if you aren't some grandpa that just uses the internet for email.

slackin so far this month, only have 32008062 so far.....aug18th is bill day.... but i dont care, cuz guess what i got in the mail, FIOS is getting laid down in my neck of the woods, so hopefully ill be off this damn EVDO (it's WAAAAAAY better than nothing)

5 days into new billing cycle and on line account info still shows unlimited. Man ya gotta love Sprints efficiency eh? Has anyone's on line bill changed to read the 5 GB cap??

It's August 1, 2008...the change supposedly happened July 13, 2008. I'm in my new billing cycle and nothing has changed. It still says unlimited. I'm about to rack up usage as it recently became my primary connection after moving yesterday. I wonder what'll happen next... Very Happy

Any ideas?

When they do crack down you will get the boot and for the convenience you will also get charged E.T.F. unless Sprint start adding overage charges by then.

Everybody's says unlimited and will probably continue to. 13 July is irrelevant. The issue is whether Sprint notified you personally of the change to the T&Cs. If it did, you are on notice and have 30 days to cancel without being charged an ETF. Afterward, you'll be charged an ETF, if Sprint cancels you for excess usage. Read the original message in this thread for the specifics.

OK, I tripped across this whole topic by accident. My eyelids were slamming shut at about page 23 late late last night, so I picked up and read through rest of the pages here this morning.

I really would hate to leave Sprint - I've been through the Verizon mill (had their various incarnations of aircards since 2003) and I've been with Sprint since 2006 - and most recently signed on for another 2 years in March when I needed a new Express Card for my newest MacBook Pro. (hated the U720 USB modem I had)

So I'm about 5 months in on a business account with $59.99 unlimited.

Because of this thread, I did go back and download the PDFs of my May, June and July bills. I did not get noticed. (so far, anyway!)

So maybe there is something to having an account under an EIN instead of a SS number?

When I go to mysprint.com, the overview for my account still shows "unlimited", and when I go into "usage details" it still shows "unlimited" in the "remaining" column, with my billing starting over again tomorrow.

And let's just say I've been in the top .5% of the .5% of "abusers" out there. Laughing (don't tell me I have unlimited and then tell me I shouldn't be using it!)

Now, after reading through my PDF bills, the only place I see a little red flag popping up is on my page 4 - under Subscriber Activity Detail --> Data Services Usage Detail, which now has a number in the "Less KB/Events in Plan column (formerly blank on the previous bills).

The number in the "used" was munged with the number in the "in plan" columns.. so I can't be 100% sure what is allowed - or by how much I went over. But in any event, I'm sure I'm over - way over. Rolling Eyes

But at the end of the day, I'm still annoyed that this column doesn't jive with the two other places on my billing that show that I have unlimited.

And going forward, even if I was noticed (like so many of you were) - how on earth can they expect you to terminate within 30 days when you don't know what the other options are going to be?

$60 for 5 gig is absolutely ridiculous. I'll be looking for other alternatives if it comes to that.

I have a mobile business, so the cellular options have been my main connection for the last 5 years - and this latest news really is disturbing.

I was around when these services did cost $80 a month - back in the good ol' days before EVDO even made the scene. It was still a great thing then and worth the money (IMO). So I would rather be paying the $80 or even $100 a month as long as I would not be under the threat of termination.

I already use a Cricket phone for my business line all day - ($60 unlimited) and they've got great service here in the Denver market. Now that they're offering up unlimited data cards for $35, I may look into that if I get noticed. (which, now that I think of it, might be why I didn't get noticed - maybe Sprint isn't noticing users in markets where Cricket is making it's data splash!?!?)

Last thought - is this just a push for some of us to go to blackberry use instead of using our laptops? I honestly was just looking at divorcing my flashed Treo on Cricket to go to a legitimate Blackberry on Sprint now that Sprint is offering the $99 unlimited plan.

I know, I know.... if you ask 10 different Sprint CSRs and Store Reps, you'll get 9 different answers. Smile

I called the guy I know at my local Sprint Store - and he basically said that the employees of these independent Sprint Stores don't know more than those of us that read these forums - and that basically, he gets better information here than through the company reps that come through the store and blow sunshine and bunnies up everyone's shorts. Smile

He thinks that accounts like mine (that were already in place before 7/13) are grandfathered in to the unlimited plan. Any new accounts are sold the 5 GB plan.

Just another 2c.

Sallly. this page: http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2343/64/ has the most accurate and current info on the topic out there. The latest news we have is this:

Quote:
UPDATE 06/19/08 Sprint has started contacting approximately 5000 data card and phone-as-modem (PAM) customers who are exceeding the 300 megabyte roaming restriction, to educate them on the change in policy that they were notified about via message in their monthly billing.

Sprint says that 99% of all data card and PAM users are not going to be contacted, and that only the 'heavy roamers' are being targeted at this time.

Customers in violation of the 5GB restriction will not be targeted at this time, but will be later this year.

There seems to be some confusion because the usage info on everyone's cards on Sprint's web site still says "unlimited." But as far as we know they are keeping track of it but just not enforcing it....yet.

The way I see it, you have only got two choices, live with it, or leave. I've decided to live with it, and it stinks. I've found that if I keep my streaming video down to 15-30 minutes a day I can stay under the cap pretty easily. What really stinks is now streaming movies and tv shows (cbs just posted all the old Star Trek and Twilight Zone episodes on their website Sad) and streaming audio is pretty much a forbidden activity, but phone users are more than welcome and encouraged to do this kind of stuff, (SprintTV) while I'm in a constant search of how to download streaming flash video content from a wi-fi connection, because sites like Hulu and CBS keep finding ways to block you from saving it to your hard drive.

As to how they are going to enforce this, what the penalty will actually be, we are all in a "wait and see" mode. My only advice is to keep it under 5 gigs and check back with this forum and others like it and see what happens to others that didn't get the memo Sprint slipped in their bill. I'm content letting them be the canary in the coal mine.

So have we even determined that the "heavy roamers" are the ones that have also been given the notices?

I'll be the canary. But it's not a fair test - because I don't roam out of Sprint's area here (gas prices keep me home pretty well! LOL)

Anyway... I'd like to see if there is any real rhyme or reason to who has gotten the notices so far.

As it sits as of this moment... I'm on an unlimited plan and I haven't been notified of any changes to my account.

So I'm still a happy camper... errr..... canary.
