So that proves it is possible to disable it for a account and its not enforced tower-wide.I have been using a SSH Tunnel for a week or so now and loads the image all correct but then again not everyone has this option and don't want to spend money to rent a server/proxy.
Simple thing is they can't proxy what they don't know is images. |

I'm a new Alltel subscriber, and i can verify that I'm getting images from some sites fed out of a cache. However, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, having installed and managed several large http cache installations before.
So far, it's been pretty flawless for me. Images look good, and I don't think there's a real speed hit there. Where it would make a difference for me is if it causes any compatibility problems with some sites, or if there's a performance hit if they try to optimize images on the first download, not after they've been cached.
BTW, another option if you MUST try to bypass it is to run a proxy server somewhere (like Squid or Tinyproxy). It can't intercept that connection very well. Another option (if you are a web designer, as someone mentioned) would be to access the site using HTTPS. SSL sites cannot be cached, either. |

I've had the image proxy server for months now, but just noticed it looks like I'm again loading images directly from the site and not the proxy. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe they decided not to continue pursuing the image proxy? Or they might just be doing some work on it and took it down for a while.
For the last month or so, though, images had been loading from the proxy server and it was really working pretty flawlessly, so I don't know why they would've stopped using it. Maybe it wasn't saving as much bandwidth as they were expecting and ended up not being cost effective? |

I got Alltel service over a month ago and had the proxy server since I signed up. Just did some checks after coming to this topic again and they removed it for me.
None of my image are being ran through the proxy now. |

| What I find odd is we finally received a press release type letter about the proxy server about a week ago, and then they go and nix it? :p |

From all your reports and a few other sources it looks like Alltel has removed the proxy server everywhere.
/me Cheers and hopes it stays this way |

I talked to ROY " called him the GREAT OZ "since it took 20 minutes talking to a moron in another country to get to Roy. They had to screen me and make sure I know more knowledgeable than the first guy to get to the 2nd guy. (it's like a meeting of the minds) you can only talk to people on the SAME LEVEL AS YOU THE CALLER.
Anyway told him I'm a programmer, site builder and to cut to the chase.
The first (I believe Mexican person - (all out of country workers as I could hear the same Mexican accent in the background)... THANKS ALLTEL for supporting our country in these tough times.
Anyway - Roy (intelligent and American) Not always easy to find.. but he was. Immediately knew my problem. (1.1.1.5/bmi/ cache). My actual call (if I had a direct line to Roy - 20 seconds) rather than 25 minutes.
Roy said - yes last year we weren't fully implemented in it yet, now we are and we're all going to this. No way out of it this time. He sounded like sorry - but tiz (alltel) not me.
I Explained everyone was in a uproar on here and that I'd be dumping my service since I deal with photography and I can't have this.
I asked if there was a business UPGRADE I could pay more for the NON-DUMBED DOWN service. He said not that he knows of. (he's not in sales).
So - there - we're screwed. You get what you pay for then... you get less than you pay for... _________________ PortraNET.com |

It's back for me too, and I'm down in Chicago where Alltel doesn't have a presence. Images seem to load OK. Speed may be down some though. So does Verizon also have this?
