With a Verizon USB 720, I was consistently getting download speeds of 1100 - 1200, while with my new compass 597 it's 800-900 from the same location.

Would that be because they're using different towers or is it something in the drivers? With the verizon usb, I did not use the connection manager, instead I used the Mac wwan drivers to connect.

I've tried other locations, and it still seems to top out at 900.

What is the signal strength difference?

Could be drivers... I would say the antenna's are different giving you different signal strength...

I don't remember what DBm I was getting with verizon, but the compass is connecting as high as five bars 80% -81 DBm, but is usually around -86 DBm at 60%. Even at the higher signal, still tops out around 900.
