Amplifiers will help with this problem, but I'm guessing you should still have a stable connection with -88 dB. |

I had the same problem(trees) and like Torrey has already stated,an amp will more than get back what you've lost in dB. |

My guess is an external antenna would get you more than the amp (assuming you're using an internal or no antenna now).
I'd start with the a good external omni myself, as it a cheaper route. If that's not enough, add an amp.
I had the same issue myself, and the omni+amp pairing keeps me in the -65 RSSI range even with all these damned leaves sprouting out. Prior to that I had a great winter connection that got progressivly worse as spring set in. Put the antenna as high as you can get it, and try a few different spots, I found just moving the antenna a few feet from the house (clamped to the outside deck rail vs. on the same rail right next to the house in my case) made a noticable difference. |
