|
|
Hi everyone,
I've just switched to Rev-A from my old terrible NationalAccess only card. I've found that with downloads, I always start at 1.3 Mb/s, but after a minute or two, slowly decrease before I plateau at around 300k/s. Is this throttling or something else? Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm in Philadelphia, where the service is supposed to be excellent. |

I don't see how you can be going over your limit if you have the $60 plan. What are you doing when it starts to slow down? And how long does it stay going slow? Also, try to make sure your only point at one tower and not switching between two towers. This could slow it down as well. |

I've read afterwards that regardless of plan, if you go over 5 GB, you're either throttled or charged.
It remains slow after it plateaus at 300k.
How does one point to a single tower? |

| If you are running REV A - why don't you hit the USAGE (VZAccess Manager - USAGE) button and see what you've used? |

Verizon throttles your connection if you go over the 5gb limit. I signed up last November for UNLIMITED (which of course is a bunch of BS) and just yesterday I began getting throttled. I typically use anywhere between 15-20gigs of DL's a month.
I called them to see if everything I've been reading is true. Guess what? It is. After you reach the 5gig limit they limit your connection to about 15-25KBps. Typically in Milwaukee, WI I would get 150KBps download speeds. This new policy sucks. That's barely faster than dial up.
I canceled my account this morning. They will waive the $175 early termination fee because their contract amendments have caused such a stir.
My advice: Ditch Verizon and get Sprint. I just did. _________________ Die Hippie. |

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but it looks like Sprint is going to start doing the same thing... |

Well isn't that interesting. I guess I'll be canceling my Sprint account too. Why are cell phone companies such utter pieces of junk? They make billions on people leaving landlines behind and going exclusively with their cell phone, and then they offer your garbage in return.
I guess Sprint AND Verizon will be on my embargo list. _________________ Die Hippie. |

There are differences between Verizon and upcoming Sprint caps.
If you recently got/renewed Verizon (since Feb?), they will charge you significantly for going over 5GB. If purchased before such date earlier this year, they'll throttle you down to 200-300Kbps for a month.
It appears that Sprint may cancel service but with no termination fee. Getting canceled seems to be the better way as then you're not stuck with the carrier or overcharged. But Sprint is committing suicide as they are in no position to match Verizon. They either need to raise the cap to 10GB or reduce the price.
Even if users don't go over 5GB, most in the know will go with the one that has the better cap. Sprint must differentiate themselves. |

ahhh yes - bandwidth is a commodity that seems ever-scarce, and supplies are dwindling much the same as crude oil and natural gas reserves. I wonder if there is an ANWR for broadband? If so, they should start "drilling" immediately.
Seriously, looking at TOS for all of the mobile carriers, they conveniently "reserve the right" to change said TOS without notice. That is the caveat that we all ignored when we signed up, but I think we all knew subconsciously that the party would not last forever. _________________ Further... |

| I must be lucky or something, I download more than 40GB of data a month, and I still keep 100-150kb/s download. (DSL speed, no bandwith drop at all.) And I have downloaded 590gigs of junk in 9 months. (1TB HDD.) |

At least he's honest about it. Junk indeed. I mean, 590 Gigs, what else can it posibly be? Movies, videos, youtubes, IM chit-chat, por..(ahem, adult entertainment), software, emails, it's ALL JUNK.
And with the "service sector" added to the ever increasing amounts of JUNK as the major portion of America's GNP, soon we'll need 1 Gb/s pipes to deliver it all. Now if that isn't progress, I don't know what is. |
