|
|
I have spent over 24 hours of tech support trying to find info on this. There are no laptops (except for a lame Dell) that are touchscreen and have a built-in mobile broadband card.
So I was wondering if it was realistic to do this manually. Has anyone ever done this before? How would I find out if it is possible? I havn't actually purchased the tx2000z yet, but I need to know what I'm going to base my decision on...
Thanks a bunch!

I looked at a parts and service manual for a tx1000z quite some time ago and I distinctly remember there was a part reference for a 3G card and antenna option but HP doesn't have a listing for such a part. I wonder if in Europe or Asia they have models that do have HSDPA cards in them.
At any rate, if the parts can be obtained, then yes, I would say it is both theoretically and practically possible, assuming you are inclined to take the laptop apart. Didn't look like a simple card insert from what little I recall about it. |

| Well, I know how to get the internl cards (I have seen them through Google shopping). I know they use the same as internal a/b/g/n spot, so pretty much you would probably have to see if the laptop has two spaces for it. I know that it would require disassembly. |

One thing I forgot to mention, asuming you still haven't yet bought the tx2000z, is that you might look at the HP 2710p. That is a tablet/touchscreen (I think) that does offer an EVDO option. You can find that one in the Business section of HP's site.
But if it were me, I'd do one of two things:
1 Use an Express card, that machine has a 34 pin slot nicely positioned at the left rear, out of the way.
2 Wait for the new Puma Edition of this model, HP might support either 3G and WiMax in it. And hopefully a dual hybrid discrete/integrated graphics subsystem, as the present one is getting quite long in the tooth.
Aside from the graphics and lack of 3G it is a nice little machine. |

Well, I don't liek the express cards. I had one, and it started to crack, and a single bump would disconnect it, and it also overheated a lot. That's why I'm very particular about this.
I actually just ordered it. I am going to get a Sprint USB device, since I doubt it supports internal, and Sprint and Cricket are the only providers with REAL unlimited useage. |
