|
|
I am trying to connect my Playstation Portaable (PSP) to Sprint through my KR1 router. I am successful when using WEP mode but I live in a area with a few wireless connections and I'd rather be using WPA-PSK. However, I've ran into a few problems.
When I configure the KR1 and PSP the PSP comes back saying there may be a security setting error. PSP can connect to two types of WPA-PSK's. TKIP or AES. I have tried both. Neither work. When using WPA-PSK (TKIP) I find an error in my KR1 log when I try to connect. 802.11: deassociated
For the life of me I can not remember where. But I may have read that the KR1 can not handle 802.1x connections?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am using WEP now with Open System, 128Bit and HEX. Would this be the strongest security as far as WEP?
I've also read about allowing just my PSP on the wireless using it's MAC address. I have no idea on how to do this. But I do know the MAC Address of my PSP if needed.
Not sure if it matters. But the PSP is the Only device that hooks up via the wireless.
Thanks for reading!
Patrick

Hi Patrick,
I'm not familiar with the KR-1, but I am with wireless security. I would highly recommend using WPA-PSK, rather than WEP or MAC filtering. 802.1x authentication is probably not supported by the PSP, and besides, you need a radius server for that. Don't rely on MAC filtering...that is easily hacked by someone cloning your valid MAC address. WPA-PSK is a better choice....WPA2-PSK is even better, but the PSP probably don't handle that either. Hopefully someone can reply that has KR-1 experience.

Yes I fully agree. I just can't seem to get the KR1 and PSP talking when I use WPA-PSK. |

Newer adapter chipsets may not be compatible with the radio that KR1 uses. It is a couple of years old and WPA implementations have changed in software over that time. To see if it is an adapter issue, you can attempt to connect to KR1 with no security enabled in KR1 and in the adapter. If they can pair at that point, then it's a WPA implementation issue most likely.
802.1x is a WPA Enterprise feature that requires a radius server and it is not supported by KR1. If you're attempting to use 802.1x the connection will fail. KR1 supports WPA-PSK in TKIP mode. |

Mackieman, you're the man.
Though I don't like the news. It does explain why it doesn't work. Least I know now
Thanks! |
