Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I bought Sprint EVDO and a Compass 597. I ran the install from the modem and all was well. Thinking I might gain a better signal from a rear USB port I moved the modem. The install instantly began running again and I could no longer connect. I couldn’t solve the prob so I ran a sys restore, reinstalled and all was again.

Last night the modem was moved to a different USB port and the same thing happened. This time no chance for the restore. I uninstalled\reinstalled Smartview. Spent three hours on the phone with Sprint where, in the end, they verified my signal\connection is good. So the problem seems to be on my side.

No program can access the internet, exactly like when you don’t have a modem connected. But, I get a solid connection to the modem. It seems like an IP problem, but I can ping the add from Smartview. I’m running XP sp1.

Thanks much for any help.

Rob

FWIW I resolved the problem. When I was on the phone with Sprint we ran " netsh winsock reset", it did nothing. So Sprint had me run RTN and reactivated my modem. Still no dice.

I thought it might be the ominous port80 block, but had no way of confirming since I could not access the Internet to grab a portscan app.

The Sprint tech suggested it may be something WinXP related since I only had SP1 on this machine. I couldn't update to SP2, but I did have an XP Home to Pro disk. So, I ran it.

Still nothing. I tried my old dialup connection. It connected, but no internet services. Just like the EVDO modem. Seemed like an address thing. I searched though the modem TCP\IP options, checked "Disable Netbios over TCP\IP" and rebooted. Then ran "netsh winsock reset" again, and voila (or lookee there, as the say in the great state of Oklahoma), back online.

Not sure why, but there it is. Twenty hours later, I can get my email.

Best,

Rob
