I'm considering getting an EVDO-to-WiFi router to install at a location where we offer evening college classes.
We're too far away for DSL.
iDSL is 144kbps for $150 a month!
Direct wireless is nearly $200 a month for 500kbps and $350/month for 1Mbps!
There's a strong Verizon signal there and I can get about 1Mbps on my laptop card.
My question is on terms of service...there's this statement:
(You can't use it) "as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections"
We only need service there about 30 evenings a year...but when we need it, it needs to serve multiple computers (1Mbps shared through Wi-Fi would be fine).
How does this TOS statement affect my ability to 'permanently' install an EVDO router?

Well it used to be that on VZW, 3G routers were "illegal" for obvious financial reasons. But a CSR at best buy recently told me Verizon signed a contract with Kyocera wich made routers legal now as they appear to be selling these things to both Sprint and Verizon customers.
But it seems lots of people here have those things on all the time and they seem to work fine. |

| I don't necessarily think that TOS statement applies to you in your situation. I'm pretty sure that that statement references to if, for example, you were using the service to make constant FTP uploads or downloads. Attempting to use the EVDO device to serve up web pages as a substitute for a server, etc. Apparently there is no violation (that I can find at least) that prevents you from hooking up an EVDO router. I know that a lot of people do it and don't have any issue. |

Thanks for your input. Sounds like this might be a viable alternative for us.
