Hi everyone,

I live in rural Iowa and have a general question about EVDO and corn fields. Does massive amounts of corn impede the signal in any way? We got the U727 in the winter and right now I have my U727 through a cantenna, but pretty soon, the farmers will all plant and the corn will begin to get pretty tall. The level of height right now will mean that I will have to reposition my entire setup higher about a good 10 feet or so to clear the height of the incoming corn. Does anyone think that I will get a lower quality signal or is the corn not dense enough like an entire forest could be? If anyone has any input on this it would help greatly.

Thanks

A clear line of site to the tower is preferable. Just place your unit/antenna high enough to clear the top of the corn and you should be ok.

what do you think about using a panel antenna with LMR400 cable instead? then i could keep the same spot but recieve the signal elsewhere. is that a good idea?

First get as much elevation as you can, if a panel lets you go significantly higher than a grid antenna or yagi, use it. Once you're up above the clutter, you'll probably be OK with almost anything. If you're buried in it, perhaps nothing will work well.
