|
|
| I have been using the Sprint U727 at home with a Wilson antenna since late October. A couple of weeks ago I disconnected the antenna and the connector broke off from the circuit board inside the modem. I ended up paying $55 at the local Sprint store for a replacement U727 (which I think they should have replaced for free). The new modem runs with a red light (blinking when active) instead of green like the old one. The signal seems to bounce up and down a lot from a low of around -80 to up into the -90's. My speeds seem to be about the same, between 500-1200 down and 70-140 up. Sprint tech support said the light should be green and seemed to be puzzled that it was working. Any ideas why the light is red? Also, would a directional grid antenna work better than the Wilson? A small corner reflector works as well or often better than the Wilson antenna. |

| I would take it back ands make them replace it for free. The red light does not signify normal operation. Period. Novatel will even tell you that. you have a unit that is NOT functioning properly! |

I agree. from my experience with a U727, a red light coming from the modem is a bad thing. especially if you can still connect to the internet. Usually when it is red, it means no service, but noticibly, you clearly have service. The U727 you currently have is clearly defective. _________________ - Henry |

Thanks. I am taking it back tonight. It has never displayed a green light in the week and a half that I have been using it. I even tried it on a different computer with the same result. It doesn't make any difference whether I am using the built in antenna or an external one. I believe that it is defective and just wanted to see if anyone was in agreement.
I am using the Verizon antenna adapter cable. It was a tight fit on the original 727 but slides on easily on the replacement. Just an observation but it makes me wonder if the original was defective and that is why it ended up breaking off the circuit board. It probably wasn't unhooked more than a dozen times in the 5 months or so that I had it and I wasn't happy that I had to pay Sprint $55 to replace it! |
