I posted this as a comment to a tip on EVDOinfo but don't know if there are responses there, so I'll post here for the sake of discussion.
When signing up for my EVDO service with Verizon, the CSR actually admitted that some people have made fax and/or regular calls work to/from the 5220 but she said they don't support it and doing so could damage(?!?) the card. I don't see how it could damage the card but I don't know.
Any ideas about how to make this work?

| just get a vonage Adapter like the Linksys PAP2 and hookit ip to you pc with Windows internet conection sharing then you can hook up any regular phone or fax to it. the only problem is you have to carry all this equipment with you kinda makes it a pain. another route you can go is get efax and Skype. which just uses software no physical products. |

Thanks for all the responses.
I have been using Skype but when calling regular phone numbers the quality is marginal over the EVDO link (I have tried the speed tweeking on my Mac, some improvement but not sure how consistent it is. It may just be more a matter of getting used to the latency). I also have solutions for sending and receiving faxes that will suffice for my occasional use, right now.
The better fax solutions seem to require monthly fees and I don't have that kind of volume. It just seems it would be easier if I could use the EVDO link.
Also, this might could serve as proof that I do have a "voice" plan for the rate reduction issue.
