|
|
I recently experienced an EXTREME slowdown in my download and connection speeds.
Im currently downloading at 100-150 kilobits per sec!
I am using the UM150 Usb modem and it was working great when i first got it.
I did recently download around 9GB for one month on my account.
I have not recieved the letter everyone is talking about in the forums about how they will limit your speed.
Is that what is happening to me?.
what else could be the problem...I have checked everything.
I have also called tech support and they said everything is good and it was a problem with my computer....Not likely because it is a brand new Dell. |

If your connection was throttled, technical support and/or customer care should have been able to tell you through the noteso n your account if you were indeed throttled, I believe.
Just out of curiosity, when did you sign up for your Verizon EVDO service? This could better establish if you fall along the lines of being in the window for throttling or not in the event of going over the 5GB cap. |

| I signed up in November 2007 so I believe I am indeed subject to the throttling right? |

Everyone is part of the 5GB cap. The only difference is some people get throttled for going over and some people get charged overages. |

| from what i found out....if you signed up for the service when it was "unlimited" then you will be "throttled" if you go over the cap.....but if you signed up when they started the "5GB /mo plan" then you will flat out be charged for the extra minutes. |

Thats not true because I signed up on Feb 4th of 2008 and my last bill dated 3/23/08 that was after they changed everything around still says unlimited MB usage.
I think everything was grandfathered in until like the beginning of March 08. Even my account online still says Unlimited MB usage today.
If I get charged for going over I'm going to be super pissed because it clearly says Unlimited usage on both my bills and on the website. |

you obviosuly didnt read my post correctly:
If you are grandfathered in to the "unlimited" plan...you will NOT get any overages charges BUT you will get throttled if you go over the 5gb /mo cap....that is what is happening to me and i have the "unlimited" plan. |

This is the part of your statement I was referring to. I signed up when it was advertised as 5GB / month but I won't get overage charges just throttled because it was before the deadline of March 2nd.
You must be on the first set of terms and I'm on the second set of terms. The third set of terms after March 2nd are the ones where you will get overage charges.
You obviously didn't read your own post correctly. My initial reply had nothing to say about your terms I just pointed out that there are contracts that have the 5GB / Month Limitation without overage charges.

When I signed up it was under the 5GB per month and when I go over 5GB they reserve the right to throttle me back to 200Kbps. There were no mention of overage charges.
You signed up back when the 5GB limit was secret and they just cancelled your account.
There are 3 different terms.
Unlimited: First set of terms not sure how they work them.
5GB Per Month then throttle: Second set of terms which I've got. I can use as much as I want but after 5 GB they can throttle me if they feel the need.
5GB per month then .49cents per MB: Third set of terms that took over March 2nd 2008. If you go over 5GB you get charged per MB but don't get throttled.
I hope that clears it up sorry for confusing you. |

If I use 9 gb in a month, I eat 2 grand.
Believe I'll try to keep an eye on usage! |

Well, I've been reading here and there about speculation that Verizon might raise the 5 G cap because too many people have been going over it and then screaming bloody murder and threatening to sue.
Unfortunately for the consumers, it looks like the cable companies will be capping their broadband with overages too. God how I HATE metered services. Have had enough with meters on water, electricity, gas, and gasoline already. Which is why I only eat at AYCE taco-shop deals and buffets. |
