What frequency range does Verizon use for EVDO? Is it 800mHz? If so, will a standard 800mHz external antenna connected to an EVDO PC card work to improve reception?

If it is not 800mHz, what is it and what type of antenna would be best to permanently install on a vehicle? Question

This was the exact reason I came to this forum today. So I will post my suspisions....

I don't know for sure what band. But I have always thought that the voice and 1xRTT were on the 850MHz band, and the EVDO is up on 1900MHz band.

I really did not have much to go on for this theory except for the fact that my i730 signal meter would take a serious jump up or down depending on if the 1X icon was on or the EV icon was on.

Well yesterday I got some additional support for my theory. I got my hands on one of the VX9800 "communcators" and noticed something very interesting in the upper left hand corner. Not one but TWO signal meters! One said 1X next to it and the other said EV next to it. They were working independent of each other too! So I am pretty confindent in stating the EVDO is on 1.9GHz.

EVDO may be on 1.9 GHZ in your area, but it is on 800 MHZ in some others.
