What would be the best data card to get if going through Alltel?

Right now, I'm using my phone as a modem, and it's not going that great.

And I figured the data card would work better.
(Would it?)

If it would, I could switch my phone plan (to a cheaper one) and add the internet to it.

That way I could get more out of my monthly payment.

So if anyone knows what would be best, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Jeremy -- tell us a little more about your setup -- laptop or desktop, more than one computer, always stationary or do you travel? What's your signal like?

You may not see a huge increase in connection speed although if you are tethered to a desktop it could be that a card and router combination would allow you to place the card/router in an optimal location in your home. Sometimes being able to relocate the card to get better reception can make a huge difference. In my case, moving two feet meant the difference between almost no reception and satisfactory reception.

I'd probably avoid the Huawei 360 because it's PCMCIA and few routers support it (Top Global, Kyocera KR2?).

Do avoid the huawei 360. Im using it, and it sucks hard. Cant lock to evDO, always reverts to the 1xrtt signal, no antenna ports as advertised (should be 2 of them....), buggy software.
It could make a nice paper weight though.
