I'm currently evaluating Sprint, and several products (597U, 595, 595U) with the intention of adding them the "approved" list for my company. While do so, I became attached to the GPS functionality of the 595U. However, to my knowledge, enabling GPS and sending data to the NMEA ports for use with 3rd party programs like MapPoint is dependent on using the Sprint SmartView software. This would be fine, except we have standardized on a 3rd-party connection manager (IPass) whose client, when enabled, takes control of the device. SmartView cannot even detect the device when IPass is running.
Overall, I'm really impressed with IPass--does a pretty credible job of connectin management accross wired, wi-fi, and cellular technology. However, I want to use my GPS.
So.....does anyone know of a way to enable the GPS/NMEA stream WITHOUT using the Smartview client?
Comments/thoughts appreciated!!
