I am very satisfied with my MBR1000, however my Internet connection periodically drops. All that is required is a simple reboot of the router through the web page and I am up and running. Nothing is worse than getting to work, needing something from home, and being unable to connect all day. I am looking to automate the reboot process.

I found an IP Power device which has html and scripting support as well as RS232 management. This might just be the ticket. I am thinking of scripting a ping statement every five minutes to the Internet. If it fails, send a script to the IP Power device to kill the power to the Cradlepoint and enable it. Perhaps there is a better way?

I am wondering if the Cradlepoint would support a remote reboot either via html or command line? Perhaps there is a hidden way to manage it? Any ideas are most appreciated.

Another question to ask is why do you lose connection? I go days on end without a reboot or a dropped connection. Perhaps you should double check the settings. What do you have the DHCP lease time set to?

It would be nice to figure out why your connection is dropping as opposed to just fixing the symptom. What FW version are you on? Have you called 3GStore or CradlePoint's support to see if they have a solution to the dropped connection?

Wow, strange.

Check your firmware version, my MBR is on all the time and I don't have the problem your seeing. I use dyndns to get to my home network regularly and I've never had a problem with it going down and not coming back up.

I can go days at a time without losing my connection. It happened to be very bad this weekend. I suspect the Alltel service is going up and down because this Sunday afternoon, numerous reboots did not fix it. I was down for about two hours. BTW, I have the Kyocera KPC-680 card and the nearest Alltel tower is 3.1 miles away from my house.

I was having a problem with the router going offline constantly. I put in a help call to Cradlepoint. I was told to disable traffic shaping which I had enabled. This made my disconnect problems go away.

I still lose my connection once or twice a week. The bad thing is it usually happens when I am at work and I cannot remote in to reset the router. Basically I am down for the day.

I am running the latest firmware version on the Cradlepoint.

Well the MBR should try to reconnect if it loses connection, mine does without any problems.

There are some known problems with the KPC-680 on Alltel going dead, and it's not on the MBR's compatibility list so you're a bit out of luck there.

Maybe that version of the card does something strange that the MBR doesn't compensate for yet as they don't have it supported.

3Gstore has a tip sheet for Alltel, give them a buzz if you bought it from them.
