My question is this: Does the KPC-650 with the verizon evdo work as well (or better or worse) on Windows 2000 than it does on Windows XP?
My 2nd question is:
The KPC-650 box actually says nothing about xp professional or 2000 professional, only "Me, 2000, or XP" as a system requirement - somehow I doubt it work work with the regular but not the pro, but just want to be sure this will work on the professional versions.
I am trying to decide what operating system to buy and install on my thinkpad T22 (which says on the computer is built for windows 2000 professional and windows 98 - so i'm not even sure if installing xp is a good idea). From what I hear, windows 2000 is more stable and better in other ways than xp).
Thank You for your help! |

I would say go with XP. Win2000 still has some stability issues. Like the Zoba (not sure of the spelling) virus deal. IMHO. I run XP home and it is flawless with my AC580 from Sprint. YMMV tho. Btw, you can use the home or pro, XP or Win2000 they both will work with the connection manager software. _________________ EVDO Addict. |

I have been using 2000 Pro and XP with equal reliability since long before the 650 was available to the public.
I prefer XP, not because of performance, but because XP allows you to eject and insert your card at will. With 2000, you must first go through the steps necessary to stop the drivers before you eject the card. If you do eject the card without stopping the drivers first, you will not be able to recognize the card until you re-boot. It's a pain.
It would be worth your while to try XP on that T22, in my opinion. |

Zorog,
Can you please explain how to stop the drivers so the card can be ejected properly in windows 2000 professional?
I was looking at xp, and it seems that it might be a little complicating getting xp working right on my T22, bios and stuff has to be updated from the ibm website....I read about some people having problems searching google...blue screens, problems with the standby... |

Be careful. I have XP professional on my Sony T250 laptop. I used to be able to share wirelessly with my 17" Powerbook with the card in my Powerbook. Now I cant. Oddly a friend's XP laptop can still do it but she has Windows XP home. I was considering buying XP home but I have an old copy of W2000 lying around. I may try that. Shearing with the card in the T250 is just as hard with XP Pro; the menus are not the same with XP home, as seen on other threads on EVDO forums. I have been pulling my hair out trying different things but none work. But if you have XP home I think it would be a good choice. _________________ Sony T250 1.2 Ghz & 17" Powerbook 1.5 Ghz |

| I went ahead and order windows 2000 professional last week. My computer is made for that operating system and by all accounts the kpc-650 and verizon service should work normally on windows 2000, and thats far and away the most important thing to me. I don't care about sharing the evdo with other computers, as I have a seperate broadband connection at home. |
