Background:
Complete newbie to EVDO and I know nearly nothing about networking.
I just got a um150. It was working fairly well on my laptop, but <sigh> I wanted more... I wanted it networked wirelessly to be able to have my desktop online at the same time and not have the modem sticking out, etc.
I got a cradlepoint CTR-350 from 3G this week. The signal for the um150 is lousy in my office where the main desktop is located so I'm hoping to add an antenna then locate the CTR and modem on the other side of the house.
Can I use my old Netgear router to pick up the CTR? I am unsure about what settings to use for the router. If this set-up is going to be tricky, please warn me and I will call in paid computer help. I'm already worn out trying to find a decent signal and get this set up! LOL!
Thanks,
--Kathy |

| Well, I dont have the cradlepoint but my setup is like the one you ask if I'm understanding you correctly. my Evdo router(KR1) has a linksys wifi router connected in port 1 and provides great coverage around the house. I did have to go into the evdo router settings and just turn off the WLAN (Wifi) since the linksys will provided a more stable signal. Was very easy and i would assume your CRT should be the same. |

Kathy, it sounds like you need two things.
first you need to improve signal you are receiving into UM150.
go read this article -> http://www.EVDOinfo.com/RSSI
and post answers to questions at end of article, onto this forum thread.
those answers will help us choose what antenna you might need.
after improving signal, you then need to call 3gstore tech support and see if your router is at optimum setup to send wifi through your house. if the ctr350 isn't good enough to cover the whole house and you want to tie it into your linksys, they can tell you settings to use on CTR350. |

Thanks for the replies! The CTR does send the signal well all throughout the house. I have tested that and picked it up well with my laptop.
I called 3G and got some great assistance about atennaes. She encouraged me to take the laptop outside with the um150 directly hooked up. I had a HUGE increase in speed/service and found the direction and side of the house that seemed to connect to the tower best. So I have an antennae ordered already. (Boy, lightening fast shipping and service! I had my shipping notice again within a couple of hours. Same thing with the ctr)
I found out more info about the Netgear router and was told that I may not be able to have that router pick up a signal from the ctr router. I ended up buying a linksys wireless card for the desktop computer and will hopefully install that today. |
