| Deb -- I was wondering if Alltel actually has its own system of cell sites where you live ("native"). I did find one Alltel cell site in Wichita, so I guess the answer might be yes. This could be why you shift back and forth from Rev 0 to Rev A -- your card can find both an Alltel cell site and a Sprint cell site and is switching between them. |

actually i think that alltel was just testing Rev A that day
the same thing happened to me
i have no sprint towers around me its just one alltel tower 100 yds away
and i was looking at my quicklink mobile and it switched to Rev A and then back Rev 0...then back to Rev A for about 10 mins then finally stayed on Rev 0 |

When i went to get my new card they informed me they would be upgrading the panhandle of Florida in June, im guessing that means Rev A should be coming. I have not yet had the chance to try out a router yet as i burnt alot of my spendable cash buying the card . |

Hey Corran,
I also live in the panhandle of Florida (Clarksville). I was wondering where you were located and what kind of signal you had with the Huawei EC228. Thanks.

Just north of Panama City, i get usually 100% signal with -80 rssi. I have seen on speed test on average 1500 down but have gotten higher. While streaming movies from netflix its been as high as 2.1 mbps
After reading 3g store reason for not hosting Top Global i think i will avoid them but i did get an email back from cradle point about compatibly.
"Several customers have expressed interest in the Huawei cards, but we
are not currently testing the cards. I'm positive that we will take a
look at them in the future, but it most likely will not be within the
next few firmware releases. Keep an eye on the lists anyway, it may
show up faster than we expect.

anyone have any other details on other routers |

Anyone know if you can lock it to Rev0/A similar to the way you can lock the PC5750 to "HDR Only"? I have been thinking about upgrading and also looking for other modems to refer friends/family to. If you can't lock it to EVDO mode, I don't want it.
Thanks. |

| In my ongoing struggle for Alltel signal, the Alltel rep told me that the Huawei EC228 did not have an external antenna port and as such, was not appropriate for me since I need an amplifier and antenna. |

2zcreek -- the Huawei EC228 does indeed have a connection for an external antenna. Here's a list of the antennas available from 3Gstore dot com. Alltel's website also includes an external antenna port in the EC228's feature list. I'm happy to see that 3Gstore has signed a contract to sell Alltel services -- so many times the local reps just don't know much about the various air card features.
Corran -- since 3Gstore will be selling Alltel services soon I'd think the chances of seeing CP support for the Huawei EC228 in the near future are much better now. |

karylyn, thats awesome news to hear, and yes I can confirm the card does have an external antenna adapter. Also the 3 "connectors" mentioned on the description are useful . The card has a mini usb port, the connectors come with a 2 usb (power/data transfer) to mini usb cord, a single usb to mini cord, and a dongle that is usb to mini usb. I have not needed an external antenna where i live due to the great signal I get. I cant wait to see a router that will take this great card... gladly test it out as soon as available and report on it. |

That's great news. I've been waiting for a Rev A 64 bit card that will be compatible with my new 64 bit computer. Hopefully, Cradle Point will come soon come up with a updated router. CR can be contacted at suggestions@cradlepoint.com if you want to push for an upgrade. I talked to a local Alltel rep the other day and they were still talking about the "Great" Kyocera KR1. Go figure? It will be great to be able to deal with the knowledgeable folks at the 3Gstore. |

| I just got a huawei EC228. It is working great. I'm going down I-10 and have had rev A from Chattahoochee all the way to Tallahassee. The upload speeds on rev A seems to be way better. I loving it. I hope they get it where I live soon. |

| By the way, I can also verify that the EC228 does have a port for an external antenna. The Alltel reps did not know much about the EC228 when I went to get it. They had to double check their inventory to see if they had it. I guess it was because it is so new. |

Howdy! Just got Alltel Mobile Version 4.7.7 with the Huawei EC228. I get connected at 3.1 Mbps...
From what I can find out about this Huawei...3.1 Mbps is the maxium threshold for this device.
I periodically get hung...or kicked off...or go "dormant"...
Alltel tech support is amazed at my speeds...usually 1900 + download and 115 + upload....
Tried all sorts of things with Tech support to avoid getting kicked off or dormant....
Bottom line question....is it that since I connected at the maxium...the hardware and software just sometimes goes beserk? |

I dont know about that, i cant get rev a yet ...hopefully soon but i can confirm alltel has a built in 12 hour kick...once you hit the 12 hour connected mark you are booted from the system and made to reconnect.....i can confirm this by looking at my connection log and seeing me disconnect every 12 hours...but instead of complaining im now praising to have a card that can make it 12 hours |
