ok, I'm at my wit's end. Here is what I have and what I need to do:
(I live in the country and only other choices are dial-up or sattelite)
1. older desktop (have usb adapter)--cannot be left on all the time because it overheats--currently connected to internet thru dial-up
2. new laptop connected to internet with usb um150 starcom -service with Alltel
3. new ipod touch with internet capabilities
4. linksys wireless router

What I would like to do:
1. set up a home network--sharing files and printer and internet (thru Alltel)
2. connect ipod to internet

I tried ICS but couldn't make it work. I am a newbie to wireless and don't really know what questions to ask. Help Sad

If you do not have a EVDO router and want to use your existing Linksys then ICS is the only other option. Using your laptop as the host, try setting it up with these directions, courtesy of Cisco:

Jim, in your perusal of cisco site, have you seen anything that gives the impression they would provide support for using their routers with ICS?

more specifically, will they provide ICS support?

just curious what you think.

Alex,

I do not believe they will provide support other than a installation guide as I posted above. In my opinion they would defer to Microsoft any ICS software issues.

not being a windows user, my follow up question then becomes... would microsoft support ICS installations that incorporate a router, to the level of ensuring the connected client computers are operational?

if not, how far do you think microsoft "supports" ICS, in general?

I've never dealt with MS on a personal "live-person" level. I believe they would only go as far as using their Knowledge Base and forum community, considering the myriad of router manufacturers.

Their support, in my opinion, stops at the Ethernet port.
