Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the whole EVDO thing. I'm trying to get something better than this HORRIBLE Wildblue service, and Cricket's EVDO plan seems to be perfect for us. I need to use it with multiple computers though, and I don't have a machine with a PCMCIA slot, so my question is, can I use Cricket's service on a KPC650 with one of these Kyocera routers, preferably the KR2? Does anyone know if Cricket uses some kind of weird setup that needs to be taken into consideration?

I'd appreciate a fast response, as I'd like to get moved over to Cricket before the end of the week...

The Cricket KPC650 will work with KR2 just fine.

I just read that Cricket uses something called "Smith Micro Connection Manager" Software. Will this prevent me from using one of these routers?

Also, would it work with the KR1? I was looking, and the KR1 is A LOT cheaper on ebay Razz

The connection manager software is not required when you use your KPC650 with the router. The card has to be activated using the connection manager prior to being used with router but after that the router will handle the connection and authentication.

KR1 was designed to be used with KPC650; however, KR2 is a much better router and I think it's worth the price difference. KR2 is more stable, has more features, and will perform better for you.

I do use the cricket broadband service, and while it seems to be possible to use a router with the service, cricket tells you on their
website that you may "not" use a router. See here:

What Cricket actually say is they don't support use with a router. What that really means is if you call their tech support and ask for help with setting up a connection through a router they won't do anything for you. You're on your own. However, I asked the 3G Store and got the answers.

My CTR 350 router is supposed to work with Cricket's A600 modem, provided I update to the latest firmware. Now I just have to wait until August, or maybe September, for Cricket 3G to actually reach this neck of the woods!
