Hey i have a problem every once in a while someone on my network will get download happy or something and make me lagg like a BI***!

is there a way through my router that i can limit bandwidth use? I have a CradlePoint MBR 10000 or something like that. I seen a few things that looked like they may be where i would put in some limitations but i have no clue what im doing so i hope i came to the right place to find out.

What i want to do is set it up where we will get even amounts of bandwidth....

give him like 6Kbps up and at least 30 down...

Thanks in advance.

How many users do you have on your "network"???

You have a Cradle Point MBR1000 or something like that? Which is it?? it's important to know what unit you are referring to. "Something like that" does not tell us anything, least not enough to help.

Your talking speeds here not bandwidth. Two different things entirely. I think the jist of what you want is to limit this persons allotment of bandwidth in the tune of maximum MG/GB he/she can use?

Thanks in advance.

We need a bit more info here in order to help. Is this at home or in a work environment? How many users do you have on your "network"? you realize the more you have on there the slower it can be for all at times if everyone is on. We just need more info here to try and help.

mmmkay, its a home network.

4 users max, most of the time is only 2.

its a cradlepoint MBR 1000

and what i want to do is to limit the amount of speed or bandwidth he can use at once.... like i am sitting on my computer playing a game and he decides to download a movie or a song.... the minute he is sitting there downloading the song i am sitting at my computer lagging out and it takes 3-5 min to get everything i had up back up again. but if i cut his speed down he can still download at a reasonable speed and not kick me off....

I went into settings today on his limewire and cut the download speed back to 35mbps sec i think it was or 35Kbps.

Thanks alot for responding and i didn't mean to not give you enough information. I didn't know exactly what all you needed to be honest. anything else i can provide just ask...

Ok, here is what you could do.

Go to traffic shaping and make a rule for both of you and set your priority over his. That way you will always get packets through first, and it shouldn't drop your gaming bandwidth because it will make his packets get inline behind yours.

Try that
