Bought my SZ750 nearly a month ago. The One Month Free sticker near the trackpad made me curious enough to drift onto evdoforums and eventually the 3GStore.
I've been using Sprint Broadband Direct for nearly 8 years. It's got an active planar array panel antenna pointed to the mountains, onto a 75 ohm cable then to a Hybrid brand cable modem with 10BT port. I'll make the shutdown call to Sprint BBD next week. The Sprint BBD equipment will get advertised in the local paper for $100 . It's gonna make some rancher mighty happy.
The U727 evdo modem is now plugged into the MBR1000 and all works flawlessly.
Using a Klegg network hard drive to wirelessly play mp3's from any PC throughout the building via bluetooth has been a joy.
Trying to use my old Dlink G-WiFi for the same purpose didn't work except for data copying (too much skipping/stalling for music/video).
Instead now, with the CradlePoint MBR1000's N WiFi, I'm walkin' and talkin'.
I went into the Vaio's [Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN] Configure area and moded only to do N speeds. Just to be sure, I told the CradlePoint WiFi to only do N mode too. Being locked into N may keep some curious warring antennas away from my system. If that doesn't, the WPA2 security will keep them guessing for a while.
I've got every iTunes purchased, cassette tape dubbed and CD that I've bought on the Klegg.
My Vonage VoIP system wasn't able to even compete with GoogleTalk codec's before the U727/MBR1000 was installed but now it's a piece of cake.
I added up the monthly Sprint MB charges plus the Vonage "basic spartan" plan (no contracts) and I don't want a cell phone just yet because I'm saving too much money right now.
Just got good news from Sprint this morning when I called customer service to ask if the original offer of One Month Free that would've been mine with sign-up of the embedded WWAN could instead be applied to my 3GStore purchased U727 and they said Yes!
Not only do I have discounts and rebates from the 3G store plus Sprint, I can occasionally tell Sprint that I want to use the embedded WWAN in the Vaio (traveling/vacation) and make a no charge (same account) switch as I require.
This also means that if I lose the Vaio or it goes out for service, I've got the U727 / MBR1000 router back home, ready for my other backup PC.
My first test of a Vaio/U727/Booster antenna configuration is to hike our 7,000 foot mountain north of here, well away from Sprint coverage, then point the booster antenna to a tower in the valley and see if I can stay connected up there, all on Vaio battery power!
