I hope this post is in the correct spot. Several members were so helpful on the 3g Alltel EVDO discussion with getting us set up with the UM150, (even finding a distributor w/o a contract) I thought I would try here for my next quandry:
I plan on purchasing the cradlepoint router from 3g for the house. The computers are used while I am not at home thus the need for the UM150.
Planning to purchase a new Alltel cell phone primarily for internet use while away from home, leaning towards a Blackberry. I travel in mostly rural areas. The phone may possibly be used for EVDO on a laptop in the near future.
I would appreciate any suggestions, options or warnings anyone has. Is Rev A supported by most of the phones now?
Thanks! |

I haven't been paying attention to phone capabilities lately, but last I knew only the HTC6800 had a chipset that was Rev. A capable. It was released as a Rev. 0 device and needed a firmware update for Rev. A. Don't know if that's available yet or not.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will come along with a better answer for you! |

Sprint is shipping the HTC mogul (aka 6800) with the rev A firmware, and rev O versions can be upgraded. But I don't know about Alltel and Verizon firmware.
This was the 1st Rev A handset, and probably still the only one. I think more will start showing up.
I just dumped my Mogul, I couldn't stand the Windows mobile 6 OS. |

I recently added unlimited internet access through Alltel to my account. I use a Motorola KRZR. I love the phone and found it works well even where I work in a valley. I wish it had an external antenna jack but can't have everything. Take a look at this phone and I think you will be pleased. My wife has the same phone and it worked at her office where previous cell phones didn't work.
Good Luck,
Tim |
